VACATION TIME |
Like last year, for the months of June and July we will be printing only one newsletter. I therefore, thought that it would be good to talk about something that applies to both months – vacations. With the price of gasoline, being what it is many people are predicting that fewer people will be taking vacations this year. That is, they will not be taking vacations in which they travel great distances in their cars. Whereas you may not be able to take this kind of vacation, I do encourage you to take a vacation. It is important for us to take periods of rest since God has designed our bodies to be in need of such rest from time to time. Without such rest, our bodies begin to wear down and we are not able to do the things that we should do.
Indeed, vacations are good, but some people think that during the summer that this applies to the Word of God as well. I know that summer is a very busy time of the year, but please always make the time to read God’s Word and study it. Make time to come to church on Sunday morning so that you can hear the Word of God being taught and proclaimed to you through Bible class and the sermons.
Make the time because such hearing and studying of the Word of God is not burdensome to you but restful. God gives you the comfort of hearing and studying the precious Gospel of Christ. This Gospel is not burdensome because it gives to you the comfort of the forgiveness of your sins and everlasting life. It gives to you the blessed comfort that by God’s grace through faith alone you will enter into your eternal rest.
So this summer go ahead and take a vacation, vacations are good, but do not take a vacation from the precious Word of God.
Your servant in Christ,
Pastor Bremer

People from 20 different towns participated in this annual event. At our 10th anniversary dinner-auction, held Friday night, May 2nd, about $10,500 was donated for the TWO new Habitat houses to be built beginning this month on the southwest side of Sullivan. This year’s annual event also was special because of the new partnership between Moultrie County Habitat and Shelby-Moultrie chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Eight areaLutheran churches are represented in this chapter and all were involved in this year’s dinner-auction fund raiser. Considering these tough economic times, this level of support is a high compliment to our citizen’s priorities. Affordable housing is clearly recognized as an ever increasing need for many of our citizens. During the dinner-auction, special recognition was given to Rev. Glen Stewart, founder of Moultrie County Habitat and former pastor of Sullivan United Methodist Church; Ron Harshman, leader of Agri-Fab, Inc. for their continuing financial support and land donation to Habitat; and Joan Pound, soon to retire as Executive Director of Habitat, for her exemplary service during all of the first ten years of Habitat’s existence. Our hearts are full of gratitude to everyone who has donated time, talent and treasure to Habitat in all of Arthur and Moultrie County over the past ten years. Special thanks go to all those who donated gifts and to all those who purchased these gifts to top off the end of the first ten years of this organization’s history. SCHOOL NEWS |
Greetings from PreschoolOur month of May passed quickly with review days; special projects; a field trip; a singing Sunday; Birthday celebrations; awards night; and field day activities. Each of the students did their best on our review days. They have the routine of our school day figured out, and did a good job sharing with one another. We still need work on our listening skills! We finished our Bible storybook for old and new testament stories. The song lists for Bible songs and fun songs just kept growing through the year. The field trip to Scovill Zoo, Decatur was a lot of fun. The weather was great! The animals were beautiful, fun to watch, and play with in the petting zoo area. A great big Thank you to our drivers and chaperones for the trip. Your help and support make the trips possible! Congratulations to our new Kindergarteners-Willow, Hannah, Mariah Jo, Maggie, Grace, Anna, Tyson, Braiden, Derek, Anthony, Riley, Heidi and Mariah Caudill. God’s blessings to each of you for a successful Kindergarten year. God’s blessings to each of my Tuesday-Thursday students for a safe, fun, and learning-filled summer. I’ll see you for three days of class starting in August. Thank you to our school families and our church families for your prayers, time, support and financial support of our preschool program. God bless you and yours! “We’ve got that Joy, joy, joy, joy down in our hears-where? Down in our hearts……to say”-because of Jesus’ love for each of us! Have a great summer! Our Love-Mrs. Jack and the Preschoolers Dear Trinity Families, Wow…what a great school year! The Kindergarten class has had a WONDERFUL year full of learning, fun and most importantly, finding out more about Jesus! Watching these little ones share their hearts as their knowledge for Jesus grows is one of the highlights of being their teacher! May has brought more activity filled days! We want to thank the Ladies’ Aid for inviting us to their Mother’s Day luncheon…it was DELICIOUS! We also enjoyed spending our day at the Scovill Zoo in Decatur. We saw beautiful peacocks, had a carousel ride, saw baby chicks, cheetahs, monkeys, SNAKES, took a train ride and SO MUCH MORE! We finished off the day with playing on the AWESOME playground at the zoo and many of us fell asleep on the way home! We have been reviewing the concepts from the whole year and we know our stuff! We learned about beaches and summer to finish off our year. One thing we all learned (and think is really cool!) is that a Coral Reef is actually made up of thousands of ANIMALS! THANK YOU for all of your love and support this year! We really enjoy getting the cards and notes from you…it is fun to have mail addressed to us! We pray you have a WONDERFUL summer and we’ll see you in the fall! Jesus Loves You and So Do We! Mrs. Jesgarz and the Kindergarten Class Grades 1-2 In Religion, we finished the year learning about Paul, Silas, Peter and Timothy. As they went and preached the Gospel to all nations, we learned that we are to tell others about our Savior too. In Math, the first graders have finished their book learning about how to add two digit numbers and touching on when to regroup. The second graders are finishing up by learning about fractions. Both grades did a lot of measuring with feet and yards. They also did liquid measuring and comparisons. In Social Studies, we are learning about our nation’s history. We have learned about the Native Americana, the Revolutionary War, the immigrants, and national landmarks. We know that the St. Louis Arch is twice as big as the Statue of Liberty. We went on a field trip to the Douglas Hart Nature Center with the first graders from Stew-Stras through Ag in the Classroom. We have been learning about nature. Now we get to see it up close. NEWS FROM GRADES 3 – 4 – 5 The end of the school year is always an exciting time. We recall some of the events from earlier in the year with great delight, and sometimes realize we have forgotten many of the struggles of the beginning of the year. We look forward to a refreshing summer and the anticipation of new challenges in the next school year. We ended our Religion lessons with Paul’s first journey to Rome, noting how even when he was under house arrest that he was able to continue to witness about Jesus, his Savior. What an example he is to each of us to be faithful witnesses under any circumstances. In Math we spent our last classes introducing fractions and measurement. Using a ruler is more challenging than some of us thought it would be. Our Science unit ended with a brief look at technology. Most of us are really glad we live now instead of 100 or 200 years ago. We can’t imagine not having telephones, air conditioning and cars. We wonder what new gadgets are still to come in the future. Field day is always a fun way to end our school year. We enjoy the activities and socializing, and Mr. Rincker grills great hamburgers and hot dogs. Thanks to everyone who helped and brought food for our lunch that day. We pray that everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer. We will see many of you at worship on Sunday mornings. God’s blessings to each of you. Trinity Lutheran School News Thank you to everyone, who during the school year volunteered in many ways. This allowed us to be able to take field trips and have the extra chaperones. We thank the Six Flag Theme Park for sending coupons in honor of 2008 Parochial School Days. These coupons are good June 9 through June 15 at a rate of $24.99 per person, when paying at the gate. Pickup your coupon(s) at the church office. The date that school will begin is August 25, 2008. Our final school registration will be August 6, 2008 from 9-12 and 1-5. The following paragraphs are thoughts from our 8th grade graduates concerning their future plans I would like to thank all the students. One reason is for all the students who help me with my homework. Also, I would like to thank the students for being my friends. I would also like to thank the teachers and pastor. One reason that I would like to thank Mrs. Kirby is she is a fun coach in volleyball. Another, because she will try to help you with your homework if you need help if she knows about it. Also I would like to thank Mrs. Jesgarz because she is very funny in computer class. Also, if you ask her to find a hymn she can usually find it. I would also like to thank Mrs. Jack because she is very nice and funny. I would also like to thank Mrs. Rincker for being a good music teacher. Also she does fun activities. I would also like to thank my teacher Mr. Rincker. He can be a nice teacher and he is also funny. He makes science sometimes fun with the experiments. Any lastly I would like to thank Pastor Bremer for putting up with me in confirmation class. Also, he can be a fun teacher. Some of the things that I learned here is that God and Jesus is my friend. Also I learned about the Bible, the Old and New Testaments. I also learned out of Luther’s Small Catechism. Some of the things I learned out of the catechism is the ten commandments, the creed, the Lord’s Prayer, the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, confession, the Sacrament of the Altar and the Christian Questions with the answers. Another thing that I learned here is that if I put my mind to it, I can usually achieve it. I also learned that material things are not worth everything. Next year I am going out to Stew-Stras High School. I also hope that God will strengthen me to make sure I will go to church. That I will be able to separate the Word of God. Rose Caudill I am very thankful for Trinity Lutheran School and the people in it. Trinity has helped me prepare for the real world by giving me a good education. I am thankful for my teacher Mr. Rincker because when I wanted to give up on my homework when it started getting tough, he wouldn’t let me. I am thankful for Mrs. Kirby because she has helped me become a good volleyball player and she has helped me get ready for high school at St. Paul’s Lutheran High School in Missouri. I am thankful for all the teachers because they have all helped me get ready for the future. I am going to St. Paul’s Lutheran High School for high school. I am going there because I want to continue to get a good Christian education. So I want to thank my friends, family and everyone who encouraged me to go there. I also want to thank Pastor Bremer for teaching me things I didn’t know about the Bible. Even though he thinks that I don’t pay attention to him because I still am not as nice to the boys in my class as I should be, I do pay attention. I have learned a lot. Arianna Zahn When I graduate, I plan to go to Stew-Stras and work on the things I plan to major in when I go to college. I plan to take four classes in math and four years in industrial tech. The things I plan to major in are computer related, because I would like to work in the computer field. I also would enjoy working as a golf course designer. To conclude, I would like to thank the teachers and Pastor for all they have taught me. I would also like to thank my family, even Gabe, for helping me with my homework if I didn’t know what to do, and teaching me discipline. Trinity is a “Great Place to Grow”. Brendan Wascher | |

LADIES AID MEETING & WOMEN OF TRINITY |
TRINITY LADIES AIDThe Trinity Ladies Aid held a Mother’s Day Dinner on May 1 with the Trinity School children and teachers as guests. After lunch the ladies held their monthly meeting. “Take My Life and Let it Be” was sung to open the meeting. Pastor Bremer had a lesson on “Planning with Reckless Abandon” out of the quarterly. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted. There are no May birthdays or anniversaries to report. Many thank-you notes were read from students who use the food bank in Fort Wayne and St. Louis. Sharon gave a report on the Joy Shop held at Flora. We are invited to a Salad Supper in Sigel on May 6. A motion was made from Donna to buy a cow for $300 for World Relief in Kenya, Africa. Sharon Tate seconded it. A report on flooring for the basement was held. More information is needed. The District Convention will be held on June 6 and 7 at Peoria. Sharon Beldon will be one of the delegates. The Ladies Aid will pay for the $20 lunch. There will be an ingathering for the Salvation Army. We will furnish sack lunch supplies: napkins, sandwich bags, small individual cakes, chips, cookies and brown sack lunch bags. The ladies are to bring their supplies to the next meeting. The delegates will be voting on four grant proposals for 2008-2009. We voted on four, they were: Orphan Grain Train for $10,000, E.A.S.T.E.R. for Effingham at $2,500, Summer Lunch Program at Danville for $4,000 and assistance for Latvian Seminary Students for $5,000. We voted for Carol Kassel for financial secretary and Rev. Mitchel Schuessler for counselor. The meeting was closed with the Doxology. Carol Krumreich, Secretary . WOMEN OF TRINITY Wednesday, May 14, 2008 The Women of Trinity met on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at the home of Kathryn Kirby. There were 7 members present with one guest, Nancy Stremming. The meeting opened with prayer and Kathryn led a Bible study entitled “Risky Business” taken from the Spring LWML Quarterly. Kathryn handed out copies of the Summer LWML Quarterly and also copies of the Clarion. Kathryn reminded everyone about the ingathering supplies for the CID LWML convention and that they needed to be at the church by Sunday, June 1. Loana will be the delegate from our society and we also chose which four of the mission grant proposals for our delegate to vote for. Kathryn reported that Faith Lutheran, Shumway, had sent us a donation for the left over material for the acolyte robes. Since we had voted to just give the left over material to Faith we decided that we would put the donation in the mite box collection. Loana gave the treasurer’s report and it was decided that the WOT would provide the drinks for VBS again this year. Everyone was reminded that Trinity is hosting the Fall Zone Rally on September 25th and that help would be needed for set up, decorating and food items. Due to Kathryn hosting the May meeting some rearranging was done to the schedule and Janet Schultz will be hosting the June meeting. There being no further business the meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer and Kathryn served refreshments. The next meeting will be June 11, 2008 at the home of Janet Schultz with Janet having the Bible study.
