Thank you from Pastor Heide…
Thank you all for your prayers and support. Surgery took longer than expected, but the doctor was able to do all he had hoped to get done. I saw him again Tuesday and he is satisfied with the way it is going. I need to continue to be on limited duty, laying face down most of the time. Next visit is July 31st. Hope to be seeing something by then and able to go back to full duty.
May our prayers rise to you, O God, as waves wash to the shore.
Wash. Wash. Wash away our sin and fear.

Dave would like to say THANKS….
Friends,
After many months of frustration, irritation and hard work, my home is finally mine again and it’s in much better shape that it has been for a long time. It’s all due to a terrific, hardworking group of volunteers. I’m not going to try to name anyone – I’m afraid I would miss someone. Just know that you have my most sincere thank you, and may God Bless each one of you! Thanks, again! ~ Dave Burmester

Adult Bible Study begins September 13th
Well, if the kids are going back to KFC, we might as well join a really good group of people who like to study God’s Word too.
Every Sunday morning at 9:00a in the Upper Room, you will find a study group that might be just the group you are looking for. It is Adult Study in an easy to understand and yet thought provoking dialogue, that can only enrich your knowledge of God’s purpose for us.
Because the study course is so well outlined, anyone can lead the group. That is why this year, we are asking for leaders to do so. Please let Pastor Miller know if you are able to help. The Leader’s Guide makes it a very easy task.
See you on the 13th!

Bible studies
•Bible Study will meet Tuesday, September 8 at 1:30p.
•Freedom Circle Bible Study will meet Monday, September 21 at 7:15p.

Quilting – September 22nd at 1:30p & 6:30p
The ladies have been very steady in producing quilts for Lutheran World Relief all year long. They are getting close now to sending them off. Sunday, October 4th is Blanket Sunday. So if you are working on tops for the ladies to tie, you might want to drop them off as soon as possible, so they can go with this year’s shipment.

***********************
The ladies will also be getting together during the month of October to quilt, on October 27th. Want to get a jump start for next year.

Luther League News
Our next meeting will be Sunday, September 20th
At 6:30p in the parsonage basement
Bring a treat , if you’d like, bring a friend! AND A MOVIE (dvd) – that you’d like to share with the group to watch. One movie “wins” unless, of course, we all “pan” it and we go to the 2nd choice.

Repairs to the outside front entrance
On Sunday August 2, 2009 the congregation had a meeting and vote, following the service, regarding the condition of the front entrance and whether or not to spend the monies needed to repair them.

The congregation voted
YES to spend up to $16,500
for repairs to the front steps
and landing.
And the design for the
project was choice A.

Anyone who would like to volunteer their time can contact either Dick Stransky / stransky@rucls.net or 524-7801 or Bill Klang / bklang@virizon.net or 524-3532. Your help is always appreciated. If you want to know more Harvey Myers might be able to answer your questions.

Community Dinner – September 27th – 4:00-6:00p sponsored by St. Peter’s, Loganville
The Council approved sending St. John’s money to sponsor and prepare the September meal; however, St. John’s would like us to provide desserts and 4-6 volunteers to serve the meal. The attendance has ranged from 50-80 people – they never know how many to expect. They will have their “core” people there to set things up and clean up. Our volunteers need to be there around 3:30p and serve from 4:00-6:00p. Sandra Hankins’ Girl Scout Troop will also be there that day assisting with things, several girls from the Loganville area.
Desserts (pies, bars, cakes…) can either be taken to St. John’s on Saturday, September 26th or Sunday the 27th. The north entrance (under the canopy) is usually open and the desserts can be labeled “Open Table” and taken downstairs (the stairs are just inside that entrance) and placed on the table at the foot of the stairs.
There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for volunteering and for desserts. If anyone has any questions, they can contact Bonnie Haag / 727-2044 or
Sue Johnson / 524-2880. Sue’s number is actually the Ozanam House as she works there part-time.

Prayer Shawl Ministry Report
I just couldn’t sleep last night after our first gathering for our new Prayer Shawl Ministry. We had 16 women of all ages come to see what we were all about. What a lively group. Lots of enthusiasm and good times.
We broke into two groups, last night, so we could develop our skills with the knitting needles and the crochet hooks. We would have just confused each other had we stayed in the room together.
For about 2 hours we worked to cast on and make chains. Knitting and purling, singles and
doubles were the terms used throughout the night. Everybody was eager to get down to business.
By the end of the night, everyone left with samples and sometimes even works in progress.
We even have 3 or 4 shawls made already by those who just couldn’t wait. It was inspiring to all.
The group decided to meet every Monday evening at 7:00p. So first timers are able to solve problems quickly as they are learning. And it was just a darn good time.
Eventually, we will be able to be together the whole time. To talk and pray for whatever is on our minds. We will then be able to utilize all aspects of what the Prayer Shawl Ministry can offer.
Even though you weren’t able to join us the first time, anytime is the perfect time to join. I hope for only that this circle of friends will grow in leaps and bounds, all ages, guys and girls alike.
We will be at the Health Fair during the Chili Supper, this year. Come and check us out, we would love to share our craft with you.

It’s worth a shot
Seasonal (or common) influenza is a respiratory illness that can be spread from person to person and is caused by human influenza viruses. You need annual flu protection because the influenza virus changes from year to year. The flu vaccine you got last year wasn’t designed to fight the virus strains in circulation this flu season.
Yearly flu vaccination should begin in September or as soon as the vaccine is available and continue throughout the influenza season, into December, January and beyond.
In general, anyone who wants to reduce their chances of getting seasonal flu can get vaccinated. It is recommended however, that everyone over the age of 50 and all children through 19 years of age should get vaccinated.
Home Health United will offer a flu shot clinic at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on October 14, 2009 from 4:30-8:00p.
The cost is $30 and is covered by Medicare and Medicaid. Pneumonia vaccine will also be available for $55. Please bring your Medicare or Medicaid card and a picture ID with you to the clinic.

KFC News
Our kick off for KFC will be Sunday, September 13, 2009, Rally Day. We will have games, rootbeer floats, and singing in Church that morning. After Church join us for a potluck lunch following with more games. Everyone is welcome.
This fall we will have two five week rotations. Our stories will focus on Joseph and his coat of many colors. This story is about families/relationships and how God took something bad and turned it into something good. The second rotation will be about Moses, starting with his birth and ending with the Ten Commandments.
Advent begins November 29, 2009 through Christmas. We will be focusing on our Christmas program, therefore there will no lessons, just preparing for the program. It is still very important to attend.
Again we will need volunteers for shepherds and leaders to make our KFC a success. This is a good opportunity for you to get to know our children and our children to get to know you.

Plan to attend our Parish Ed/KFC meeting Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
If you are unable to attend feel free to contact either myself or Pastor.

See ya there

Notice of Congregational Meeting & Vote
Sunday, August 2, 2009
Following the service

This is Notification of a Congregational Meeting & Vote to be held Sunday, August 2, 2009 following the service, regarding repairs needed to the outdoor front entrance & steps of the Church.
It is the recommendation of the Council to act upon the state of the front entrance & steps for the well-being and safety of the congregation and public.
A product has been studied and suggested for the repairs. Samples of the tile are on the table in the back of church. Weatherstone (trademark) is a porcelain cement material that is meant to handle the outdoor elements.

The cost of the project exceeded what was first projected in January 2009 at the Annual Meeting. The Council needs the Congregation’s approval to spend the extra money needed and to choose the design for the front entrance.
The funds are available for the project.

The Vote consists of Two Components:

1) Yes or No – for the Council to spend the extra money yet, not to exceed a total of $16,500 for the whole project.
2) Design A or Design B – the two designs selected by the Council and thus needing your final decision as to which design you would like to see the front entrance to be. These two designs you will find on the following pages.

A sentence or two from our seminarian

Besides going back to Dubuque for my final year of school there are many other events, which make up the pathway to my becoming a pastor. At the conclusion of my internship year there are reports to be written. The supervising pastor and myself each write our own report, as well as the Internship Committee at the internship site. The committee is made up of lay people of the congregation who throughout the year have been meeting with me and giving me their reflections and advise on how I am doing in many different categories. A copy of each of the reports goes to the seminary in Dubuque and to the Candidacy Committee at the Synod in Madison. These reports are the basis of interviews I will have with the Candidacy Committee and two professors from the seminary sometime before January.
Another topic of discussion at these interviews is the twenty-page essay I am in the process of writing. The essay is made up of four smaller essays, each with some very thought provoking topics. Being approved by these two groups (seminary and synod) is vital to being able to be called as a pastor.
Besides these activities there are papers to be filled out which provide a basis for where and what kind of congregation I will be called to. Once the approval process is completed and the paper work is completed bishops from all of the country gather together and decide where within the nine regions of the country each person will be assigned. This happens in February. From there people start receiving calls from bishops for interviews at specific churches.
So within seven months from now I will have made it through all this and be able to give you a better answer to, “Where will you be when you graduate?” I will take all your prayers as my family and I get closer to the reality of life after seminary.
See you in church,
Tammy

Study on the ELCA Human Sexuality Report

Dear Members & Friends of St Peter LC:
This is just a reminder of an up-coming study you are invited to. Below my “PAGE” – that you may have already seen in the Newsletter – is a tentative schedule of sessions. I had originally envisioned 3 sessions ~ with my willingness to continue to meet with those wishing to pursue study ~ BUT in long-range preparing, I think it not possible to divide this 3-ways…rather 4-ways (4 sessions) will be more manageable & conducive. I hope you will join us for this study – especially if you have strong feelings EITHER way on this issue. Also note: Pr Heide, at Zion & Leland will be doing a study if it fits your schedule easier – we will NOT be using the same Session break-downs. However, it will be about the same Statement. You could attend either or both. Peace & Blessings. PrC

Pastor’s Page – July 2009
This is a difficult Pastor’s Page to write this month – because it needs to address the issue of the ELCA’s ( 8 year) Human Sexuality Statement. That statement has been drafted and studied and re-drafted over all those years. I did a study in Mineral Point with 4 lay people in 1993, and I hear that Pr Ron did a study and preached a sermon on it (also in ‘93?) prior to his departure. Which is to say, the issue has been around and we’ve had various tastes & samples of it along the way.

Now the “final draft” will be before our Churchwide Assembly in Minneapolis, August 17-23. Thus, a “final decision” will be made at that time – after which Synods and Congregations will need to make decisions to comply with or reject the (possibly new) policies of the ELCA regarding our Human Sexuality and practices of ordaining men and women into ministry. No, this is not an easy discussion to have…but it is a necessary one for all of us.

Thus, as the time approaches, I believe this is the best time to gather together as God’s People here at St Peter’s, Lville, to begin studying the Statement and sharing our concerns in relative calm. By that I mean, in August, during the Assembly, the media will be covering this subject as it progresses through the Assembly. If true-to-form and from past experience, the media will sensa-tionalize these deliberations in a divisive manner – after which “calm” discussion may not be so easily achieved. That is why I am offering 3-Sessions (minimum) for our reading & sharing about it.

On Wednesdays – July 22, July 29 and August 5, at 7:30pm – we will gather as a congregation to study & share. I have especially asked that all the Church Council attend, since this will be a “hot topic” in every congregation’s life (like women-in-ministry was in the 60’s, or slavery in the 1800s). As leaders and members of the Body of Christ and this congregation, we need to know what the Statement actually says and be clear what is being RESOLVED. I hope all of you, especially those with some knowledge of the Statement’s history & strong feelings about it, will attend at least these three sessions. There will be readings available in the narthex, before & after each session, to help inform you of the next session’s topic(s). More sessions may be added, depending on interest.

I suggest we begin on the less controversial issues contained in pages 19- 34 (of the 34 page Statement – and an additional 18 other / more pages). Those pages will be copied and available on the hybrid table in the Narthex – as we divide the Statement for each Session of study.

As a glimpse into the nature of the Statement’s spirit, the Church is asking that we, as Lutheran’s, will focus our faith on that which binds us together – belief in God’s love and Christ’s sacrifice for our salva-tion here and eternal life hereafter. This in opposition to focusing on that which may divide us. In other words, the Statement allows each of us to be “bound by our conscience” whether that means accepting homosexuals into the life of the Church & ministry or not. Select words from the Statement include these: Over the years…”we have come to various conclusions concerning how to regard lifelong, monogamous same-gender relationships, including whether and how to publicly recognize their lifelong commitments…This church also acknowledges that a consensus does not exist concerning how to regard same-gender committed relationships, even after many years of thoughtful, respectful, and faithful study and conversation. We do not have agreement…[yet] the baptized are called to discern God’s love in service to the neighbor…In this discernment about ethics and church practice, faithful people can and will come to different conclusions about the meaning of Scripture and about what constitutes responsible action…” (pages 16-17). Join us for further discussion, deliberation and discernment. Pastor Miller

Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust Proposed Social Statement

This fulfills the 2001 Churchwide Assembly mandate to address human sexuality from a distinctively Lutheran perspective.

A mandate was received in 2007 to address ministry standards. It is titled “Report and Recommendations on Ministry Policies.”

Consider Genesis 1:26-31 (NRSV), “ Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness;’…God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good”

Almost immediately after the first great day of rest and God’s declaration of creation’s goodness, according to the Garden of Eden story, humanity challenged that goodness and questioned God’s authority. We have not been able to agree on our relationship with God and the human condition ever since.

At this year’s Assembly, the ELCA will vote on Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust that was created, reviewed and studied by many parts of the church. It reflects Scriptural insights about right relationships, God’s work in creation, use of the Law, and God’s grace-filled dealings with us. It includes new knowledge about sexuality and gender and changes in cultural practices and attitudes. It is to guide us in discerning what love of neighbor means for responsible action today.

Whether or not the ELCA approves this statement, the media coverage surrounding it is likely to be sensationalized. In order to be informed of the actual statement and prepared to present full information to our neighbors, we will be studying the statement following worship July 26 and August 2, 9, and 16.

Before we begin it is important to recognize that we as Christians will continue to faithfully disagree on many of the points in this document as we do on many issues. Our time of study is not intended to convince one another of the correctness of our own view but to consider the fairness of this document in presenting our human condition.

July 26 is at St. John.
Aug. 2 and 9 are at Zion.
Aug. 16, if needed, will be at St. John.
Church is at 9am, so about 10/10:15 we will start.

Prayer Shawl Ministry Report
I want to invite all who are interested in the ministry to come to a first meeting on Monday, August 24th at 7:00p. And we can then set future gatherings as it suits the group. No, you do not have to already know how to knit or crochet, just a desire to learn. I even have quite a few crochet hooks and needles to share. We will have plenty of yarn available for you. I will donate all my odds and ends as I hope others will. We have to start somewhere. I am learning more about the prayer shawl ministry everyday and I can’t wait to share it with you. I can’t wait for multiple generations to gather for this one purpose. I first learned to knit and crochet from a very wise old woman. It’s a craft that I have passed on to my daughters. And I would love to pass it on to you.
The most important thing that you will find participating in this ministry is how close you will develop a spiritual relationship between you and the person you are creating the shawl for as well as having some very meaningful conversations with God. I’d like to share a poem with you from a very dear friend. Thank you Roy.

Like An Angel
Like an angel , You carried me
Over rocky road and turbulent sea.

When the burden became too heavy to bear
I looked up, and you were there.

SUMMER WORSHIP HOURS – Saturdays at 5:00p & Sundays at 9:00a
Congregational Meeting & Vote – August 2, 2009 - following service
Blood Pressure Screening – August 2, 2009 - before and after service

PASTOR’S PAGE – August 2009

It hardly seems possible that the summer is half over – in some respects. But it must be so. We have had VBS, outdoor service & the Ice Cream Social. Yeap, half over. And it has been pretty good at church too. We are a little behind in worship attendance and giving, which isn’t so bad considering we have around 10 people I know of that are laid off from their jobs in these tenuous economic times. And we have the resources to fix our front steps at church before another (brutal?) winter. Life is good in many respects.

This also follows news of our “saving” the Loganville Elementary School – at least for another school year. But that may not be the case next Spring. Already we have “LOST” our bank and Feed Mill and one bar. Fortunately, Thieding Construction and St Peter’s seem to be holding on strong.

I was talking with a twenty-something recently as he mentioned these closings. I agreed it was devastating for our little, close-knit community and that we couldn’t handle much more bad news. I also remarked that we had to keep the church strong & vital so it wouldn’t be another ‘victim’. He was surprised that I even thought the church could be affected…and then he realized it is also a possibility.

I guess we never realize how some things are dependent on our support. Don’t we all think that it is our right as citizens of this country that we at least have our own Elementary School? And it has been a great asset for us and for our children. But it could ‘go by the way’ as with so many other things that sustained small towns & communities in the past. Things we always thought “defined” us and made us special. We don’t realize it UNTIL it might be “taken” or “closed”. (Like the Schulze dealership in Reedsburg – through no fault of their own, they may be re-defined soon, too.)

BUT THE CHURCH TOO is susceptible to changes WITHIN and BEYOND our control. We need to continually focus on our UNITY in Christ and our MISSION to the world. As we do those things that Christ leads us to do – locally and globally – our efforts will be blest. YOU also need to PARTICIPATE in those activities whole-heartedly = LIKE worship and KFC and VBS, Choir and Quilting, Study and Prayer and Stewardship.

There are good signs of our vitality = numerous Baptisms already this year, and new members are transferring in because they feel a real WELCOME here and PURPOSE. Let us EACH re-commit to supporting our congregation and the Church of Jesus Christ with our worship attend-ance and financial giving. It will keep you grounded and us connected. After all, we have seen things happening in our society we never thought would or could happen…with devastating ripples throughout. Let that NOT be what happens to our beloved St Peter’s Lutheran Church.

We do have a Mission and Purpose for God’s Sake in this place. Re-commit to participating in it & supporting it with YOUR cheerful presence and generous offerings. Pastor Miller

It’s the 65th annual Ice Cream Social – July 12th 4:00-8:00p
co-sponsored by: Thrivent Financial for Lutherans

It is time for the 65th annual Ice Cream Social.
Rachel Niemann, Peter Giese, Ryan & Amy Suemnicht and Wendy Crary
are your committee this year.
The date is Sunday, July 12th at 4:00-8:00p.

There will also be box lunches for our shut-ins. (Please contact anyone from the committee about church members who would enjoy these services.)

The worship committee has planned an outdoor service at 9:00am, in the park, for worship that morning, so dress casual for the day.
Immediately after the service, we will begin set-up for the social.
Tables, chairs and tents will be set-up by those able to move these. Downstairs, sandwiches will be made and pies/cakes will be cut, meals for the shut-ins will be assembled and delivered, along with other kitchen duties. The last few years this takes about an hour.

Remember to sign up!
Remember lots of hands make light work. We
do need all your help at the social for serving sandwiches,
cakes, pies and ice cream. Also greeters, beverage servers,
people to clear tables, cut cakes and pies, runners to bring
supplies to the food line. Wherever you feel able to help,
know you are greatly appreciated.
Finally, but very necessary is the clean-up.
Let’s all help and it will be fun for everyone.

Music, good food and a great time is guaranteed for all!!

Happy Fourth of July!!

Thank you …

Thank you for all the great 90th Birthday Cards. ~ LaVera Grosskrueger

Harold Haag and his family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, cards and sympathy on the loss of his mother, Carol Haag.
Josh Myers has returned from Iraq and would like to thank everyone for their prayers and mail.

Bonnie Haag would like to thank everyone for the cards, visits, prayers, care and
concern during her recent surgery and recovery. You are all such wonderful and thoughtful friends.

Thank you for all your prayers, visits, food, cards and flowers. Thank you too, Pastor Chris for your visit at the hospital, rehab and when I came home after my knee surgery. I am now a member of the new knee club! It means so much to know my church family was there with their support. God Bless each of you. ~ Ruth Kruse

Sharon Radke /727-3097
would like to share
their art of canning
and freezing produce
for those who would
like to try their hand at it.

Garden plots are available at Ron Kruse’s or Roy Schroeder’s.

Dawn is always looking for special music during summer worship. There is a sign up sheet in the back of church. It can be a vocal and/or instrumental choice. If you are looking for help Dawn or Vicky will be happy to assist.

A sentence or two from our seminarian

My internship year is rapidly coming to an end. I will be back at St. Peter’s on July 19. I want to thank all of you for your support in all ways. I thank those who have contributed to the Current Seminarian Fund. Not only is the money appreciated, but I also appreciate the vote of confidence in what I am doing. I also want to thank those who have kept me in their prayers this year. They have worked wonders in my experiences this year.
As I prepare to once again enter the life of a fellow
parishioner I suspect I will have mixed feelings.
It may be OK to be a part of the congregation,
but I will very much miss out on being in front
of the congregation leading worship. I suspect
that is part of discerning my call. When I am not

doing what I am called to do, I do not feel complete.
In September I will be back in Dubuque
going to classes during the week and grasping all the
last pieces of insight the professors have to offer us.
And on the weekends, “I’ll see you in church!”

Yours in Christ,
Tammy

Summer Fellowship
During our summer worship season, we have fellowship following the service. There is a sign-up sheet in the back of church on the table for people to pick a Sunday to furnish a drink and treat.

Adult Family Home Coordinator – Tanya Kaiser

Adult Family Homes exist in Sauk County as a one or two bed alternative to institutions. Adult Family Homes are available to individuals who are unable to live independently. These individuals may be elderly or developmentally disabled. Adult Family Homes allow them to continue to reside and participate in their own community.

Sauk County is always looking for people willing to become Adult Family Home Providers. We would like to have an Adult Family Home available for every person interested in this type of care. We currently have thirty Adult Family Homes and only five openings in these homes.

Finding families who may be interested in becoming certified as Adult Family Home Providers is challenging. In my experience, many people think about becoming an Adult Family Home Provider for months or years before I hear from them. I understand and appreciate the kind of thought that must go into making this kind of decision.

Many times people who are interested in becoming Adult Family Home Providers have a strong faith foundation and a relationship with a church. This is why I feel it is important to share this information with you.

Please contact me, Tanya Kaiser at (608) 524-7967 if interested.

Community Dinner – 4th Sunday of the month – 4:00-6:00p

Since, the project is ecumenical (all denominations), St. John’s is asking for volunteers, individual or groups, to help sponsors future dinners. Interested, let the office know and we will get info to you.

The contact person at St. John’s is Sue Johnson.

THE BAPTIST WHITE LIE CAKE
~ To all the ladies who bake for church events

Alice Grayson was to bake a cake for the Baptist Church Ladies’ Group in Tuscaloosa, but forgot to do it until the last minute. She remembered it the morning of the bake sale and after rummaging through cabinets, found an angel food cake mix & quickly made it while drying her hair, dressing, and helping her son pack up for camp.
When she took the cake from the oven, the center had dropped flat and the cake was horribly disfigured and she exclaimed, “Oh dear, there is not time to bake another cake!” This cake was so important to Alice because she did so want to fit in at her new church, and in her new community of friends.
So, being inventive, she looked around the house for something to build up the center of the cake. She found it in the bathroom – a roll of toilet paper. She plunked it in the cake and then covered it with icing. Not only did the finished product look beautiful, it looked perfect. And, before she left the house to drop the cake off by the church and head for work, Alice woke her daughter and gave her some money and specific instructions to be at the bake sale the moment it opened at 9:30am and to buy the cake and bring it back home.
When the daughter arrived at the sale, she found the attractive, perfect cake had already been sold. Amanda grabbed her cell phone and called her mom. Alice was horrified – she was beside herself! Everyone would know! What would they think? She would be ostracized, talked about, ridiculed. All night, Alice lay awake in bed thinking about people pointing fingers at her and talking about her behind her back.
The next day, Alice promised herself she would try not to think about the cake and would attend the fancy luncheon/bridal shower at the home of a fellow church member and try to have a good time. She did not really want to attend because the hostess was a snob, who more than once had looked down her nose at the fact the Alice was a single parent and not from the founding families of Tuscaloosa. But, having already RSVP’d, she couldn’t think of a believable excuse to stay home.
The meal was elegant, the company was definitely upper crust old South and to Alice’s horror, the cake in question was presented for dessert! Alice felt the blood drain from her body when she saw the cake! She started out of her chair to tell the hostess all about it, but before she could get to her feet, the mayor’s wife said, “What a beautiful cake!”
Alice, still stunned, sat back in her chair when she heard the hostess (who was a prominent church member) say, “Thank you, I baked it myself.”

Alice smiled and thought to herself, “God is good.”

HAPPY BAKING!

VBS – Huge success!

I couldn’t let this newsletter go without a comment from me regarding the VBS program this year.
So, if you got this a day late, I apologize.
While the weather was showing record temperatures, the group – kids & grown-ups, stayed plenty cool. OK, well maybe not on Monday, as Sue mentioned in church about tie-dying on the hot blacktop. But, besides that we were plenty comfortable. The AC has definitely been wonderful.
This VBS curriculum was chosen a few months ago, and we had a few meetings to wrap our heads around the idea and how we were going to present it. I think we did a great job! The set was awesome! Liesa and the Leaguers did a great backdrop and the rest of the set came together with a boat and a dock and a shack and a tree. I hope you got a chance to see it. Be sure to look at the pictures in the back of church. And so with our plan set, we were ready. Bring on the kids!
There was so much energy going on between 6:00 & 8:00 each evening. The kids were terrific! They’re enthusiasm fueled the rest of us all week long. Every night they would be greeted with beads and we would have them put their names in the can for a drawing for the end of the week.

Day 1 – Skeeter (Pastor) makes his entrance. Every night Sue and him would start the evening with a skit. Then, Sue would tell the kids a story. Sue would ask the kids what a God sighting was. And the kids would chime in with everything that God had created to acts of kindness. Tie-dying was one of the activities on Monday. It takes about 3 days to create a shirt. Weren’t they great!?

Day 2 – Ruth and Ryanne and their incredible craftiness took care of all the crafts. And as the week went on, the moms of the group got right in there helping the little ones. From lanterns to drums to very detailed crosses. They even had a glow bug necklace! And build your own turtle, complete with a heart. This was also the first of the WET days! I was in charge of the Gator Games and with 90+ degree days you can’t go wrong with a little water. I mean a lot of water!

Day 3 – Our suppers had names to correspond with the story. Like “Berried & Raised” dessert or how about “Bugs & Boils” for a snack. You get the idea. Tracy and Louise and her crew kept this group of about 45+ fed every night. Lots of pizza and bologna sandwiches gave us the energy we needed to keep up with the kids. Pastor and few other shutter-bugs caught moments all week long. Thank goodness for pictures.

Day 4 – Music and lots of it, every night. The theme was Crocodile Dock, down in the Bayou. Liesa and Leaguers and I got to teach songs and actions to the kids. They had their favorites and they will be performing at the Ice Cream Social in a couple of weeks around 6:30p. So kids don’t forget to wear your shirts and bring your drums! Chadder Theatre was watched on Wednesday and Thursday. It was a funny adventure with Fraider and Chadder, in search of the monster crock. Then, we got WET again!

Day 5 – Our program was on Day 5 with a potluck. The week went very fast in the basement of the church. And so now it was time to show our families what all the fuss was about. Everyone got to sample some of the “Bugs & Boils” and “Berried and Raised” dessert. Then, Sue and Skeeter (Pastor) put on a skit. The kids helped Sue explained what they learned each evening and a song was sung marking each day. Then, we had our drawing for prizes, which were straw hats and blow-up crocodiles, baby ones too, sport pennants, beads, turtles, a net and more. Then it was time to say good-bye. We hope you HAVE A GREAT REST OF THE SUMMER. See you in Sunday School. FEAR NOT!

Thank you, everyone who participated. You are great bunch to work with.
Vicky

SPRING has it’s benefits: it marks the end of another ‘dreary’ winter (unless, of course, you are into skiing or ice fishing – which I am not) AND the earth appears to re-awakening. Farmers can get outside comfortably to do field work & planting. Gardeners finish cleaning up their gardens for new plantings and new growth. Golfers can take real swings at real golf balls onto, hopefully, real grass fairways. There are so many other reasons Spring is a beautiful time of year – despite the occasional rains (& flooding) that are also necessary.

This Spring has been especially ‘dear’ to me. You helped me celebrate BOTH my 30th Anniversary of Ordination (March 25th) and my 60th Birthday (April 10th) – at a surprise party following our mid-week Lenten Service on April 1st. Yes, I was surprised – despite the fact that you all knew and so many were wearing “BLACK” that Wednesday. And NO, I didn’t “catch-on” or ‘tumble’ to your antics. I also appreciate your sensitivity & awareness of the inappropriateness of such a “celebration” after a solemn Good Friday service – my actual birth date. Thank you for the many cards & gifts in honor of these two events. Your out-pouring is warmly appreciated.

Then, on an even more personal note, our second grandchild was born April 3rd to our son, Marcus, & d-i-l, Amber, in Kansas City, MO – which Donna was able to “attend”. Landen Christopher joins Logan Christopher in the Miller family & lineage. They are two beautiful children of God and we are proud grandparents. As that son is growing a family, our second son, Joel, the police officer in LaCrosse, is marrying a dear gal from the Eau Claire area. We are very excited about their wedding on May 16th in an EC Lutheran church. Family and friends will gather for the celebration – a reunion. Our daughter, Elisa, living in Mazomanie, is teaching in Mt Horeb and will be joining the Peace Corps next year.

So, this Spring is especially special to Donna and me. Not often are there so many peaks with so few valleys on life’s journey. But it is compounded by our relative good-health and your warm acceptance of us and my ministry. Hopefully, together, we may continue to be the church in mission in this place as EASTER PEOPLE. Let us thank our God – who is the God of “surprising outcomes” – in a world too fraught with selfishness, greed and rebellion. May we encourage each other to be hopeful and helpful in the midst of dire economic times and supportive of those among us & around us who are un-employed or under-employed. Those stresses are our opportunities to emerge from the darkness of this world with a faith that overcomes such apparent defeat.
Happy Easter & God’s Blessings. Pr Miller

Another Sentence (or two) from the Seminarian

We have made it back from Mississippi whole and wiser. Our group lived up to my expectations of them. We were assigned to do a roof, which was the one thing none of us put as having any skill level or interest of doing, but I have to boast, we were one great roofing team! We were paired up with six retired people from three states who have formed themselves into “LATCH”. They go around the country and repair roofs for, well, fun I guess. They had all the equipment and knowledge of how to do roofs according to the Florida hurricane code that we needed. Our team of 19 people was able to completely tear off the old roof, make repairs of rotted areas, resheet, tar paper and shingle an 18 square roof in a day and a half. I thought we could do it in a day (what do I know) and they had it scheduled to take 3 and a half days (they didn’t know us), but we hauled and got ‘r done in record time.
The rest of the week some of us helped a guy pour for the foundation to replace his house to it’s original size. All that was left after the damage from fallen trees and water was a laundry room and the front wall. He has been living in a FEMA trailer since the hurricane and working four 12-hour shifts a week and home schooling his teenage twin girls. The rest of us went to side and roof a shed. Unfortunately the college kids who built the shed the week before made some errors and we had to take a day to correct those before we could get to the siding and roofing, oh and it rained that afternoon too. Allie was excited to side and can now “talk shop” with Chris on all that siding jargon.
We also had some time to tour Biloxi on that rainy afternoon. We went to visit the house that Dekorra’s group had worked on when they were there two years ago. The house is owned by the city and used as a visitor center. It is an old Victorian that was restored with great love by all who leant a hand.
All in all it was a great trip and we had a lot of fun working side by side with each other. Thank you to all who kept our trip in your prayers, they worked well!

Yours in Christ,

Tammy

Altar Frontal Dedicated

On Good Friday, a new altar frontal was dedicated to the church, in memory of LaVern Muchow, by his wife, Myrtle and his family. The bookmark, used for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, was given in his memory at the time of his passing, which will be 50 years on May 10, 2009. Darleen Harms helped in the placement of the new appliqués for the altar frontal. A new parament for the pulpit will be dedicated in May. The gold fringe is the original from the previous parament and frontal.

KFC News

Sunday School is winding down for the year. Our final rotation is “The Walk to Emmaus” starting April 5th, Palm Sunday. The Children will also sing that Sunday, April 5th.

The Walk to Emmaus is the story about two disciples walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus. Jesus has been crucified and they are very sad. A stranger joins them and the disciples do not recognize him. The stranger is Jesus. The often asked question is why didn’t the disciples recognize Jesus? Had He changed in some way, or where they so consumed with their grief believing Jesus was really dead? The stranger, (Jesus) reminds them Jesus had to be crucified and die in order to fulfill the scriptures. Did they forget the scriptures also said Jesus would rise from the dead? Or did they choose not to believe or have faith in this part of the prophecy? The question for the children and you is how many times has Jesus been present in your life and you were blind to it? How many times has God answered a prayer and you chose to ignore the answer? Jesus promises to never leave us. He isn’t here physically, but he will always be with us. The disciples grief and disappointment clouded their visions where they could not see the greatest gift of all – eternal life. Jesus had won! He was victorious! This is the Good News and Easter is a good time to have the children be aware and share the Good News with others.

As always, the KFC will be singing following the rotation. Mark your calendars for
April 5th, Palm Sunday.
FYI - There will be no KFC on Easter, April 12th. The last day of Sunday School is May 17th. The children will sing on that Sunday.
Anyone interested in leading this last workshop please contact me or Pastor. Bible Study for this workshop is scheduled for Sunday, March 29, 2009 following church.
Thanks again to many who have already volunteered and a big thank you to our shepherds and our secretary, Ruth Kruse.

Thank you for the beautiful Lilies!

Although it is too early to comprise a list of all the loved ones remembered or honored. It is not to early to say thank you for the beautiful Lilies that will decorate our church at Easter. A list will be published in next month’s newsletter and future bulletins.

Habitat for Humanity bowl-a-thon – March 29

The Sauk Columbia Area Habitat for Humanity announced it will be sponsoring a Bowl-A-Thon on March 29th at Brewster’s Lanes in Reedsburg. The proceeds will help the group build a home in Reedsburg later this year.
The event has been named the “Build-A-Home Bowl-A-Thon” and will also include a silent auction, 50/50 raffles and bowling competition prizes. Individuals or teams can bowl at 12:00 noon or 3:00 pm for a fee of $15.00 per person. Local businesses have already started donating items for the silent auction and are also sponsoring lanes with their tax-deductible donations.
The work behind the event is being coordinated by local habitat volunteers, Theresa Svetlik and Mandy Schulte who are working with nearly 20 others from the area. Their goal is to assure that the first Bowl-A-Thon is as successful as the group’s Christmas Tree Sale held last December in downtown Reedsburg.
Tim Escher, President of the Sauk Columbia Habitat affiliate, said, “We are really encouraged by the enthusiastic support we already see from the community in Reedsburg. This type of local involvement is the key to Habitat’s success in carrying out our mission.” Tim also said “we are very grateful for the donations that have already been provided by Reedsburg businesses for the bowl-a-thon.”
Individuals and Teams interested in registering for the Bowl-A-Thon should call 768-0904.

Another Sentence from the Seminarian

As I write this I am making preparations to go with others from Dekorra Lutheran Church to Ocean Springs, MS for some work on Hurricane Katrina Relief. And if you read the newsletter as soon as you get it, I am there. We will be gone from March 28 until April 5.
There are thirteen of us heading south including my daughter Allison. I think we
have a hearty crew and many of them have gone before on a trip like this. So we are planning on getting a lot accomplished.
We will be at Camp Victor, which is just across the bridge from Biloxi and I hear our site is very close to the beach. Ahh, warm tropical breezes….
When we return I will be happy to report on our accomplishments and our God moments. I am very excited to go and finally experience first hand what many of you already have.
Thank you for the prayers as I continue my internship year.

Yours in Christ,

Tammy

From the W/ELCA Stewardship Secretary
Another year, well on it’s way and Hospice and Mid-wife Kits are being put together for the Church Wide Meeting in May. All other kits are sent in October with a vast amount of quilts. The ladies are busy tying quilts every 4th Tuesday of the month at two different times of the day, 1:30p & 6:30p. It is a great way to share fellowship with our sisters.
This year also has a Biennial Gathering, June 26-27 at Madison in the Bishop O”Connor Center. The theme is “Finding joy in the Journey”. There are many workshops to help us in finding our path in life and also hear others’ stories.
There is a $100 scholarship to be given. Application for the scholarship is due May 1st. The form for that and others are in the back of church. Any questions please ask any W/ELCA officer or Ruth Kruse / 524-1184.
We are always in need of gently used blankets and sheets for the quilts. Lands’ End just donated boxes of thread to the ladies.

Time to order the Lilies!!

As a part of Easter tradition, to honor Jesus’ Resurrection, churches decorate with White Lilies on Easter Sunday. It has become a sacred flower for the season and during Easter it is an opportunity once again to honor or remember our loved ones.
There will be a sign-up sheet in the back of church, which explains the cost and how you would like to present your lily – in Memory of / in Honor of and who is giving the Lily. Jan Henke and Marge Schmidt can answer any questions you may have. Orders do need to be in by Sunday, March 29th.

Blue Fridays

With several of our own loved ones, Katie Wobschall and Joshua Myers and

KFC NEWS

We will be starting a new rotation, “Jesus Calls the Disciples”, Sunday, March 1st, 2009.
This rotation will focus on how Jesus called 12 very different men to be his disciples. Nothing
special or outstanding about these men. However, when they were called they did not hesitate, they followed immediately and committed their lives to following Christ. These men then continued to spread the Word after Christ’s crucifixion. The question for our children to ponder and us, is what are some of the obstacles we must overcome or what makes us hesitate to not hear God speaking/calling us.
The goal is to show the children we can all be disciples of God, just by being a better
friend, child, parent, pastor and teacher.

As always, the KFC will be singing following the rotation.
Mark your calendars for April 5th, Palm Sunday.

FYI - There will be no KFC on Easter Sunday, April 12th.

CHILDREN’S SERMONS

Every Sunday through Palm Sunday, there will be a Children’s Sermon in the form of a skit. Vicky Baumgarten is heading the skits and collecting actors throughout the congregation to put on the production for the children. Pastor will discuss with the children what the skit represents.
The theme is Worship.

The names of the skits are:

March 1 – Lent…Not the Stuff in Your Belly-Button
(talks about the Lenten season)
March 8 – We’re Off (a family discusses why we go to worship)
March 15 – The Worship Wonder
(an infomercial about a gadget to help us worship in our busy lives)
March 22 – At the Ball Game (the importance of music in worship)
March 29 – Poor Peter (two women discuss God’s “rules” of worship)
April 5 – Worship’s Strongest Link
(a game show of contestants competing to be “Worship’s Strongest Link”)

For thought ~ “My Get Up And Go”, author unknown.

How do I know my youth is all spent? Well, my get up and go just got up and went. But in spite of it all, I’m able to grin. When I think of where my get up has been..
Old age is golden, so I’ve heard said. But sometimes I wonder as I get out of bed, with my ears in a drawer, my teeth in a cup, my eyes on the table until I wake up.
Ere sleep dims my eyes, I say to myself, “Is there anything else I should have laid on the shelf?” But I am happy to say as I close my door, my friends are the same, perhaps even more.
Now I am old, my slippers are black; I walk to the corner and then I walk back. The reason I know my youth is all spent, is my get up and go just got up and went. But really, I don’t mind when I think with a grin, of all the places my get up has been.

PS thanks Dick - Vicky

Gulf Response Plans

Tammy Craker reports that plans are nearly completed for Dekorra Lutheran Church to do response work on the Gulf. Fifteen responders will be leaving March 28th for Ocean Springs, Mississippi. This is just across the bridge from Biloxi, where St. Peter’s went on their first trip. They have been told they will be doing drywall finishing and painting. Tammy and Allison Craker are participating and looking forward to the trip. Our prayers and best wishes go with them. – Roy Schroeder

And now a note from our seminarian

I have hit the half way-point in my internship here at Dekorra Lutheran Church. Which means I will be back in the arms of St. Peter’s Church again in August. I have missed you, but not enough that I would ever consider giving up what I have started. I am amazed day after day of this internship experience and what I have been learning.
When I started this journey to become a pastor it was hard for me to imagine what that meant exactly. I knew I wouldn’t have Sundays or holidays off anymore, but it is surprising how excited that makes me. When I found out we had three services on Christmas Eve, it was only a second later that my smile was beaming and my head was full of spectacular scenes racing through my mind of what that would look like. I recently found out our Sunrise Easter Service at Dekorra is at 6:30 a.m. and even though I am not a morning person, my thoughts quickly turned to how great it would be to arrive in the dark and greet the sun and the Son in worship.
So now my imagination is being replaced with real life experiences and each one confirms my call to ministry, little old me from Loganville. God does work in mysterious ways, but then again God only has us humans to work with.
It looks like I came up with more than one sentence again. In closing I do want to thank all of you for your support in prayers, words of encouragement and gifts of money. Each one is special to me. You mean so very much to me and Chris and the kids.
Thank you, Intern Tammy

Mutual Ministry Update

2/11/09

At our last Mutual Ministry Meeting, discussion was raised regarding the following topics that were brought up at our Annual Meeting.

 Our “20 somethings” and young adults. Renewed membership as evidence by increasing attendance and involvement in their church family
 Benefits of children sermons for all members and as it encourages children’s attendance at Sunday morning services

This committee reviewed these topics and remarks at the Annual Meeting and we are in agreement that we want to make this a welcoming church for all ages of members and
visitors.
“Mutual Ministry” is our unique opportunity to have a shared ministry with our Pastor, co-responsible for our ministry. Together, as a congregation, we are all working toward our goal as a family of Christians in Faith. The Pastor is not to be in the middle of us, nor outside of us, but beside us. It is our belief that our congregation will be healthier and spiritually maturer not only at a personal level but, also collectively as we seek to serve God – together.
In a few weeks, Council will appoint three new people to join our current members of the Mutual Ministry Committee. We ask all members to prayerfully support this congregation and this committee as one body of faith at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Loganville.

In Christian Love and Respect,

Roy Schroeder, Janet Klipp, Kathy Geffert, Chuck Muchow & Pastor Miller

WORK begins at the “crack of 9:00a” – right now we’re doing drywalling…then mudding…and painting by the end of the week or beginning of next week.

If you want a “piece” of this – come on down… anytime till 4pm-ish. Bring your tools or use ours. Be a part of transforming his place and the fellowship of laborers.

Also – FREE LUNCH AT NOON AT

Lutherans Needed to Teach English in China!

China Service Ventures, a Lutheran Charitable organization,
needs volunteer English teachers to serve in China this summer.
In China’s rural areas the need for volunteer English teachers is great.
The cost of orientation, evaluation, 3 weeks of teaching, transportation,
meals, lodging, and a western toilet! is $1200.00. This cost does not
include airfare and China visa.
You need not be a trained teacher but have a willingness to learn
English as a Second Language (ESL) techniques. The goal is to teach oral
English to Chinese English teachers, nurses, and some high school and
middle school students.
This is a wonderful opportunity to share your gifts of service with
the Chinese people. Come and join CSV as we build upon our Lutheran heritage in China and serve the “least of these” in Xinyang, Henan Province. For more information contact Reverend Steven Ray. TIME IS RUNNING OUT!

LEAD 2009 – March 14th

If you have already been identified as a leader in the church, YOU should attend because LEAD has been designed for you! Leadership Education and Development “LEAD” is a day of inspiring presentations and informative, engaging workshops designed for congregational lay leaders and pastors.
Presented by the South-Central Synod of Wisconsin, ELCA and hosted by Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 550 Lincoln Drive, Sun Prairie, WI. Brochures are in the back of church outlining the day. Well worth checking out.

Outstanding Speakers!

Each year the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) has a speaking contest for students in ninth through twelfth grades. This year the theme was “Service and Sacrifice by America’s Veterans Benefits Today’s Youth by….” Winners of the contest were Jason Whalen, who took third throughout the district, and Jolene Briquar, who took first at the local level. Great job! Your church family is proud of you. You are making a difference.

If anyone would like to submit articles to the Newsletter, especially about accomplishments of our fine youth, I will work them in.

New Hymnals in the works -

Evangelical Lutheran Worship, a new hymnal, was published in October 2006. Many churches in our Synod are using the new worship book. It may be time for St. Peter’s to join them!

“Word, sacrament, song, God’s amazing grace – Evangelical Lutheran Worship is grounded in our rich heritage as Lutheran Christians.”

Much of it’s content we already know and cherish. In addition, the new hymnal has 200 new hymns and worship songs. We have purchased and used the guitar accompaniment book and the liturgy accompaniment books. On occasion, we have already sung some of the new songs in ELW.

A fund has been started for you to contribute in purchasing the Evangelical Lutheran Worship book for the church. Memorials may be made to remember those who have passed, or a contribution in honor of someone you cherish. The new hymnals are $20.00 each.

We need a total of 328 hymnals for the entire church of a total of $6,560.00.
There will be a freight cost as well.

When the fund has reached a designated amount, a decision will be made by the Church Council to order. This is an exciting time for our church. Please contribute to the fund when you can.

With Lent upon us, it is time to join in an extra-worship service on Wednesdays to con-template what our Lord did for us – to free us from sin, death and the Devil. As in the last four years, we will share another “program” to help us LET Christ UNTANGLE the DISORDER that our ORDER has made of things. We will need “actors” and your imagin-ation to navigate the uncertain ‘waters’ of economics & sacrifices ahead. JOIN US FOR:

Another sentence from the seminarian
I have hit the half way point in my internship here at Dekorra Lutheran Church.
Each one is special to me and mean so very much to me and Chris and the kids.
Thank you, Intern Tammy

KFC NEWS

Currently, our rotation is the story of the boy, Jesus, in the temple. This is the only story in the Bible, which talks about Jesus’ life as a young boy.

So far, the children have learned the first 3 Commandments and have now started to learn and memorize the 4th Commandment. The goal is for the children to realize the Commandments are there for their/our benefit. The Commandments were given to protect us. They really are “Commandments of Love”.

The next rotation is “The Call of the Disciples”. The message here is Jesus selected specific men to come and spend extra time with Him. This was done so they could go out and spread the good news to others. This could be compared to our KFC students. They are called every Sunday to come to KFC and Church. This call is also extended to the volunteers who are shepherds and leaders.
The call has a price for all of us. When we come to Sunday School or Church we are making a choice to be there. Sometimes the call is hard. It is easier to stay in bed or say no to the call, however, it appears to me the KFC kids and their parents are responding positively. On several Sundays, there has been 50+ in attendance. Also, thanks to our Shepherds, who have committed to be with the children through the full year. Thanks to the many volunteers, who have lead a workshop or assisted in any way. With that being said, we will be needing people to lead our workshops for this rotation. If interested, please contact myself or Pastor.

SIMPLY AMAZING

Monica Haefer, a senior at RAHS and a member of the Luther League,
was interviewed this past week on Channel 15. She is the granddaughter of Jim
and Pauline Deitrich. Carleen Wild had Monica on their news program and spoke
to her about the Food Pantry in Reedsburg. She has been helping this
organization since she was a freshman, making it a yearlong task of raising funds
with garage sales, brat sales and speaking to local businesses to gather
non-perishable items for the pantry.
She would set a goal each year of items to collect exceeding her goal all
Four years. Her freshman year – (500) 562 items, sophomore year – (1000) 1070
Items, junior year – (1500) 1703 items and now her senior year (2000) collecting
2483 pieces.
Monica wants to thank your grandparents, especially her Grandma for her
support taking on such a project and others who helped her. She has enjoyed
working with the Food Pantry these four years and will miss working with them.
She was glad to something for other people. “I know it meant a lot to them.”
Monica was also on three trips with other volunteers to aid in the Katrina
Disaster over the years. Hard working and unselfish come to mind, as I write
this article. She even had a little time to enjoy cheerleading in school.
For a young lady to take on such a task is to be praised.
I asked her, “what’s next?”
And she said, “I don’t know, there are so many things I want to do.”
Good Luck Monica with whatever you set your mind to.

FOR: Katie Wobschall

WHEN: February 14, 2009

TIME: 2:00-7:00 pm

WHERE: Loganville Village Hall

Katie is scheduled to deploy to Iraq sometime in March or April. The current plan
is: Katie will be leaving for Camp Bliss, TX, the end of February for training which may take
up to 45 days. From there, she will be deployed directly to Iraq.
To help make Katie’s deployment easier and to remind her of home and her
family/church family, we are asking everyone to bring a photo of yourself or family to put in a
photo album which she will take with her. On the back of the photo, please put your name and
address. There also will be a space in the album to write a few words of encouragement and
support.
This album will be a constant reminder of the family Katie has back home praying and
supporting her while she is serving her/our country.

Hope to see you all!
Thanks to everyone in advance,

KFC NEWS

• December was a busy month. Along with Christmas practice we also started a new rotation “Jesus’ Birth through the Eyes of Isaiah”. The prediction of Jesus’ birth and the hope it gave the people at that time and the hope He continues to give us in the present.
• The children continue to work on the Commandments and are doing a good job memorizing.
• We are still looking for pictures of our Sunday School students to complete our bulletin board.
• The children will sing in church, Sunday, January 18th at the 10:00am service.
• The next rotation, starting Sunday, January 25, 2009, is “The boy Jesus in the Temple”. This story is taken from the Gospel of Luke. Our goal for the children is to learn Jesus is not only human but also is the Son of God. Also, Jesus makes it a priority to learn in God’s house, therefore asking us where is Jesus on our list of priorities.
• This lesson looks like it will be a lot of fun and as always we will need people to lead our workshops. Please contact Sue Wobschall or Pastor if you are able to help.
• Thank you to our shepherds and to many people who have volunteered thus far. Your time and assistance is always appreciated.

Happy New Year!
Sue Wobschall

There will be no KFC on January 4th. See you back on January 11th !

There will be a Teachers meeting, Sunday, January 18th,
following service regarding the new rotation.

KFC sings January 18th.

A big thank you to the youth that participated with the cookie decorating. We had to have done at least 1000 cookies. I would like to thank parents that were there to help and the parents that also helped make the cookies. You helped to make the Cookie Walk a success.

Next event is the Youth Recognition Sunday, January 4th.
Share your talents with the congregation.

STILL LOOKING FOR AN ADULT SIZE SANTA SUIT!!!!!!!!

ORGAN FUND

As many of you know, the organ has arrived. Thanks to everyone who helped
with the delivery. I don’t think anyone really knew what to expect, but it was quite
heavy, and that, I think, they will all admit to.
I hope for those of you who have heard it, that you enjoyed it. We still have some
tweaks to work out and we have to learn and adjust to it as we go. Be sure to give the
organists feedback, preferably right away following the services while everything is still fresh
in everyone’s mind, whether you think it was too soft, too loud or just right and if you liked the tones/settings chosen. All that information is helpful.
We have one more payment to make which is due in early January. That payment is
approximately $11,300, so it you are able, your donation would be helpful and appreciated.
The Cookie Walk brought around $1,300 and other monies have been donated.

Thanks again to everyone for their help and support throughout this process.

A message from your Council President

Seasons Greetings to Everyone!
Well, another year has almost past us.
This can be a the Season of Joy and Happiness - Sorrow & Sadness.
It’s the time of year we watch the excitement in our children’s faces, as they anticipate the arrival of Santa.
They go over their lists to make sure they have everything in order.
We, as adults, know what the true meaning of Christmas is – the birth of Jesus.
It’s fun to watch the children, yet it is up to us to explain the true meaning of Christmas.
Someday, they will understand and pass it on.
May you all have a Blessed & Joyous Christmas Season.
Sincerely,
Chuck Muchow, Council President

---------------------------------------------------------
A sentence from the Seminarian –

OK, this may be more than one sentence, unless I learn to write like Paul in his epistles. First I want to send another thank you to those who have contributed to the “Current Seminarian Fund.” As some of you may know the company that Chris was working for went under a few months ago and even though he has been working in an LLC he and a few other co-workers started there has not been much income in our household. We our praying all will work out in God’s way for us, and I believe your support of me and my family is a part of God’s hand in this journey.
The other thing is I want to assure you all even though you don’t see much of my family in church in Loganville, the Lord is surely touching us. Mike is involved in the confirmation classes here in Dekorra and so is Chris as a mentor for another boy in the class. Believe me they get quite a bit of theology and have both grown in their faith.
Allie is doing well in college in St. Cloud Minnesota and is home for the first part of January working at Subway, tell her Hi! Beth is very busy as well. She completed her CNA training at MATC as part of her high school curriculum so she has started her journey to medical school. She still works at Viking Grocery too.
Know that I miss seeing you all each week, but we are doing well and everyday I am convinced this work is what God had intended me to do.

God’s Blessings on the New Year,

Tammy Craker
