READING THE BIBLE IN A YEAR
THE BIBLE BOOK OF THE MONTH CLUB - Read the Bible in a Year

St. John Lutheran Church - Hopewell Twp. will be hosting the “Bible Books of the Month Club,” where participants read specific books of the Bible during a given month. By the end of 12 months, reading approximately 100 pages per month, the entire Bible can be read.

This Bible Book of the Month Club is for EVERYONE young people as well as more experienced bible readers.

THE BOOKS OF THE MONTH ARE: Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, and Haggai.

About the book of Daniel: Daniel, a Jew who became an important government official in Babylon and Persia, shows the Jewish people that foreign nations would have power over their homeland until God sent the promised Savior. The first part of the book tells stories of Daniel’s life. The second part of the book tells about future governments that will have power over Palestine.

About the book of Hosea: Hosea warns the people of Israel about their unfaithfulness to God. God keeps on loving us even if we are unfaithful.

About the book of Joel: Joel wants the people of Judah to repent and stop sinning. God is judge. He will punish people who sin. Joel promises that God will save and bless his people after they repent from sin.

About the book of Amos: Amos was a shepherd whom God sent from Judah to preach to the people of Israel. Amos preaches against rich people who are cruel to the poor. God cares very much about people who are poor and helpless. He wants fair treatment for everyone.

About the book of Obadiah: Obadiah speaks of the punishment God will bring on the Edomites, who had invaded Judah and plundered Jerusalem. God is faithful.

About the book of Jonah: Jonah shows Israel that God does not punish if people repent and are sorry for their sins.

About the book of Micah: Micah reveals God’s concern for justice in Judah as well as in Israel. God cares for the poor and helpless. God will judge the rich who mistreat them.

About the book of Nahum: Nahum assures the people of Judah that God will destroy Nineveh, the capital city of their great enemy, Assyria.

About the book of Habakkuk: Habakkuk shows that people never get away with being wicked but will be punished by God. Habakkuk is afraid when he learns that God will send the Babylonians against Judah. But in the end Habakkuk decides to trust God.

About the book of Zephaniah: The prophet Zephaniah, a descendant of good King Hezekiah, prepares Judah for Josiah’s revival of 621 BC. Zephaniah warns Judah that God will judge a sinful people. Zephaniah’s preaching may have helped to turn people to God during Josiah’s revival.
