| | Click here to go back to CONTENTS.TAKING CARE OF CAREGIVERS During November, we celebrate National Family Caregivers Month. Caregivers may call themselves husband, wife, parent, son or daughter, but no matter what their title they play an important role in caring for loved ones who need their assistance. While this care is given freely and lovingly, it can be stressful at times. At Lutheran Services in Iowa, we celebrate family caregivers in communities throughout Iowa and offer programs that assist them as they take on this vital role. LSI’s home health care programs provide important services to families including home visits by skilled nurses, homemaker services to assist with light housework and respite services for those caring for a family member with a physical or mental disability. At LSI, we understand the difficulties and benefits of caring for a loved one. That is why we are here to support this important group of people that take on these rewarding responsibilities. To read helpful tips from LSI professionals about caring for loved ones and other helpful family suggestions, go to www.lsitips.com. |

| | Click here to go back to CONTENTS.I AM YOUR CHURCH BUDGET Through me, families are launched in marriage, persons are baptized, the young are trained in Christian character. I provide Sunday School and youth activities for your children. I provide music to enrich your worship, and preaching services to help you live more nobly. I heat and cool your church building and keep it in repair for your comfort and use. I do your custodial work. I reach out to your community and country, preaching, teaching, healing in Christ’s name. I help to train ministers in the seminaries, and I provide assistance to those who retire after years of faithful service to God through the Church. It is through me that the sick find spiritual strength, the troubled and the discouraged are steadied. I go out into the wide world, preaching the Gospel in every language. I carry the Word to people of every race, color and clan. I am your Budget. Believe in me; support me, that I may carry on in your name. With your help I make possible all of these services. As the budget, I am YOU at work. But I do need your help. I do need your support. Without you, to undergird me, I am helpless. You are my foundation, my supporting walls. I am your money, your prayer, your concern - translated into action. I can do only what you, through sacrifice, make it possible for me to do. |

Click here to go back to CONTENTS.HOW SHOULD WE LIVE? The Evening Blessing In the evening, when you go to bed, you are to make the sign of the holy cross and say: “God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit watch over me. Amen.” Then, kneeling or standing, say the Apostles’ Creed and the Lord’s Prayer. If you wish, you may in addition recite this little prayer as well: “I Give thanks to you, heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ your dear Son, that you have graciously protected me today. I ask you to forgive me all my sins, where I have done wrong, and graciously to protect me tonight. Into your hands I commend myself: my body, my soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel be with me, so that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen.” Then you are to go to sleep quickly and cheerfully.
