"CHRISMON" is a combination of parts of two words: CHRist and MONogram. A Chrismon is just that--a monogram of Christ. It may be a monogram, a symbol, a type, or a combination of such figures. All of our Chrismons are made of white and gold. White, the liturgical color of Christmas, refers to our Lord's purity and perfection; Gold refers to His majesty and glory. Each pearl is a symbol of our Lord's words. The small white lights on the tree point to Christ as "The Light of the World".At St. Ansgar we have over 500 Chrismons in 50 designs. Small groups of women met in the fall of 1996 and again in 2004 to make beaded Chrismons. Over 10,000 pearls, 1,200 gold beads and 150 yards of wire went into the making of these symbols. During this Advent season may these Chrismons remind you of God's greatest gift to us all, Jesus Christ!! | |
