Opportunities Here and Abroad

Support Homeless Teens

Our Women of the ELCA are planning to create Renaissance Welcome Packages. Homeless youth receive two containers when they move in, a plastic laundry basket and a wastebasket. These are filled with: Laundry Basket: Twin sheet set, pillow, plastic clothes hangers, full-size shampoo, full-size conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, nail clippers, lotion, two bath towels, two hand towels, two washcloths, daily planner, alarm clock.

  • Waste basket-for men: men’s razor, shaving cream, deodorant, comb
  • For women: women’s razor, shaving cream, deodorant, comb, feminine hygiene supplies.
We have 10 baskets of each to fill, so please start looking for these items when you’re out shopping!

Are You an Artist?

We could use more drawings for our bulletin covers for Sunday morning. The best drawings are simple ink or pencil drawings. Themes for the covers can be focused on Biblical stories, characters or verses, or on scenes of natural beauty or pictures of our church. Anyone of any age is welcome and encouraged to submit possible covers to Pastor Susan!

Twin Ports Ministry to Seafarers

Twin Ports Ministry to Seafarers has been giving out many warm clothes to seafarers: coats, sweaters, jeans, warm shirts, overalls, hats, gloves, and snowmobile suits. The cold weather catches many southern hemisphere seafarers unprepared and their supply now is very low. If you could help with this need, any article donated would be appreciated - clean, used items in small to large sizes are quickly selected by their visitors. Call TPMS at 218.727.5897 or you may mail or drop off items at 2024 W. 3rd St. in Duluth.

Substitute Sunday School Teachers

Could you be a substitute Sunday School teacher? It’s always good for our regular teachers to have a few names to call on in the event of their absence. Let Larry Burkhard know if you could be on that list!

Journey Into Prayer

This is a Synodically sponsored and led program that aims to deepen the prayer life of individuals and congregations within our synod. Congregations are invited to provide a 3 person team(one of whom must be a man) to participate in sessions from 5-8:30 PM one evening a month. Each session includes prayer, study, conversation, and a light supper. Participants are encouraged to commit to 30 minutes daily for personal prayer. The sessions are held October through May and are hosted by churches around the synod. This year, our neighbor, Bethlehem in Two Harbors, is a site, so this would be a convenient year to take advantage of this opportunity! They will be the first Thursday of each month, beginning with October 5. Might you be interested in this important ministry on behalf of Knife River and for your own spiritual growth? Please contact Pastor Susan ASAP if you are!

Calling All Quilters

Fall has arrived and it’s quilting time again at Knife River Lutheran! If you are an expert quilter, we need you! If you are an intermediate quilter, we need you! If you are a beginning quilter, we need you! If you have NEVER quilted, but can tie a knot, we still need you!

Please join us on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 9 AM as we begin our fall quilting session. Help us sew quilts for those less fortunate! All materials are provided—just bring yourself, a friend, and a happy face! It’s a wonderful time of fellowship and friendship, so please join us!
