The Kyrgyzstan Kidz Mission

The mission to renovate the building in Kirovskoe began in 2005 when Kelly Downing accompanied his mother on a mission trip to Central Asia. Rosalie had won the trip at the LWML convention. Kelly was struck by the efforts of Bob and Sue Pfeil in Kyrgyzstan. Things developed and in 2007 Kelly and Elmer Smith went to Kyrgystran to evaluate a bulding in Kirovskoe to see if it could be renevated for use as an orphange.

The building is very solid and surprisingly it has a good roof. Plans were made and the second trip will take place in September of 2008 to begin renovations. The first effort will be to seal up the buidling with new glass in those windows which are broken out or missing. Next will come a new heating system and a newly renovated entrance to the building

Kelly is a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Elmer is a Pastor serving at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sterling, Nebraska.

The building is a former Kindergarten (pre-school) in the small community of Kirovskoe. Kirovskoe is about 35 miles northeast of the capitol city. The building had been unused for several years and is rundown from lack of maintenance. The kids in the comunity need a place for after school and educational activities.

Renovations have included new plumbing facilities. Glass to replace the broken and missing panes has been purchased. Needed renovations include a new heating system, renovated entrance some electrical and painting. These tasks will be done by future mission teams.
