Every Tuesday Evening, 02:30 Zulu (7:30PM MST), there is a gathering of the Emergency Communication Net on Echolink. KD7HLQ in Anthem, AZ, has configured a computer to act as a connect node for all who would like to participate in the NET. Just aim your EchoLink browser to "Area 7" in the left box, double click on KD7HLQ-L in the right box and you should be ready for a QSO.
While this medium is not to be relied on at times of disaster, it does provide an excellent way to connect for ham operators of varying licensure. Since not all are licensed to operate HF and HF conditions can vary greatly with atmospheric conditions, EchoLink provides a relatively stable and ongoing means to be in communication nationally and internationally.
To date there have been NETs involving Kentucky, Missouri, Arizona, and California.
To use EchoLink you must be a licensed amateur radio operator. When you first logon to the EchoLink site, you will be asked for your call sign and this will be authenticated before you can actively use the service. Once you have been activated and achieve QSO, normal ham operating protocol is to be observed. |
