The annual reunion of the decendents of Levi and Ida Meeder Goehring will be at Pavillion #5 at Brady's Run Park on Sunday, August 25, 2013 More details coming later. Time: TBA for the main meal Table settings and beverage will be provided. Please bring covered dishes that will be shared by everyone. We are looking forward to sharing a delicious meal together. Henry William Goehring |

WILLIAM HENRY GOEHRING, a native of Alsace, Germany, born about 1750, was one of the early settlers of Butler county, Pennsylvania, where he located about 1801. He purchased 216 acres in Butler County for $325.45 on June 18, 1806. The land was known as "fruitful Manor." The deed says he already was "of the County of Butler." He purchased 200 acres of land, in what is now Cranberry township, which he cleared and improved, and resided thereon down to his death, in 1831. He married in his native land, Catherine BAER, by whom he had the following children: William, who died in Pittsburg, aged ninety-seven years; Adam, who died in Cranberry township; Charles; Christian, who died upon the homestead; Rebecca, who married John ROSEBORO; Fredericka, who married Christian BUHL; Barbara, who died unmarried; Catherine, who became the wife of John STAMM; Magdalena, who married Jacob WOSTER, and Charlotte, who married Francis BURKHART. Mr. GOEHRING was one of the original members of the Lutheran church of Zelienople. Before immigrating to this country, he was a teacher in the public schools of Germany, and was a man of very good education. The Goehrings were active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Zelienople. Henry William is listed as a trustee when the church was formed in 1821. The first confirmation class, which graduated in 1821, was packed with his grandchildren. | |

CHARLES GOEHRING, third son of William Henry GOEHRING, was born near the city of Strasburg, Germany, in 1782, and came with his parents to Butler county. He purchased a farm adjoining his father's, in Cranberry township, consisting of 200 acres, and, subsequently, was the owner of about 750 acres of farm lands in Cranberry, Muddy Creek and Worth townships, and was one of the most extensive farmers of his time. His death occurred in Cranberry township, April 25, 1857, dying upon the farm which he first settled. Mr. GOEHRING was twice married, his first wife being Margaret FIRESTONE, who bore him one daughter, Margaret, who married Elias SEAMAN, after whose death she became the wife of George GIESS, and now resides at Zelienople. His second wife was Elizabeth, daughter of George HARTZELL, who survived him many years, and died in 1875. To this union were born the following children: Henry, and George, [p. 1168] both deceased; Catherine, who married Charles BONZO; Caroline, wife of George RANSCHER; Eliza, who married Adam PFEIFER; Charles, deceased; Charlotte, wife of Theophilus FOMBELL; William; Lewis; John; Elias, and Gellert. Mr. GOEHRING was first a Whig, and later a Republican. In religion, he was a Lutheran, and filled the office of elder in that church for many years. |

Henry Hartzell Goehring |

HENRY GOEHRING, eldest son of Charles and Elizabeth GOEHRING, was born in Cranberry township, Butler county, in July 1818. After reaching his majority he removed to New Sewickley township, Beaver county, where he purchased a farm of 306 acres, upon which he resided down to his death. He was a very extensive farmer, owned 1,100 acres of land and at his death left to each of his children a farm of 100 acres. He was president of the Harmony Saving Bank, one of the directors of the Rochester Insurance Company, also of the Spar Savings Bank, of Rochester, and a stockholder in the Pittsburg Saving Bank. He was an extensive dealer in stock, and bought and sold cattle for the Pittsburg market. He took an active interest in all public affairs, was one of the directors of the poor farm for twelve years, and one of the leading Republicans of his community. He married Sophia, daughter of Jacob HARTUNG, of New Sewickley township, Beaver county. Their children are as follows: Jacob B.; Elizabeth, wife of Joseph B. ZIEGLER; Charles F.; Lucinda, wife of Casper KNAUFF; Amelia, wife of Abraham WISE; Zeno; Rosina, wife of L. D. BRUENER, and Barbara, who died in youth. Mrs. GOEHRING resides with her daughter Mrs. J. B. ZIEGLER, in Beaver county. Her husband died in August, 1884, and was buried in the Zelienople cemetery. He was a life-long member of the Lutheran church, and for many years was connected with the Zelienople congregation. | |

The group pictured at the right worked on October 27 to repair and straighten the grave stones of Henry Hartzell and Sophia Hartung Goehring in the Zelienople Cemetery. Ed Boots, along with Rich Goehring, Daryl Boots, Ron Goehring and Jack Lachendro were instrumental restoring the stones to their orginal position. |

Jacob B. Goehring Family |

Jacob B. Goehring, eldest son of Henry Hartzell and Sophia Hartung Goehring, married Sarah Hohnadel daughter of Henry and Catherine Zehner Dambacher of Zelienople in 1864. Their children were: Grant ;Elmer J. Elldeorth; Edwin S; Amanda wife of Albert Kirshler ;Levi; Ida Josephine, wife of Edwin Freshcorn and Ira James who became a Lutheran minister. Jacob was a Christian man whose concern was that his children would be raised in a community that feared, loved, and trusted God above anything else. His concerns led other farmers to assist him in starting Oak Grove Lutheran Church, New Sewickley Township. |

Levi Harrison Goehring, forth son of Jacob B. and Sarah Hohnadel Goehring, established his farm across the road from his father Jacob's homestead. He married Ida Amelia Meeder daughter of Frederick and Margarette Meeder of Cranberry Township in 1900. Their children were as follows: Edith Reneta, wife of Joseph Crawford Deemer; Leola Margaret, wife of John Newmont :Clarence Raymond; Kenneth Leroy; Donald Russel; Lillian Gertrude, wife of Kenneth Westerman; Claire Oran; Harold Meeder; and Ethelyn Erma, wife of Ralph Herr. Levi died on 1925 leaving Ida with nine children ages 9 to 21 to raise. |
