Join a Thrivent Builds Worldwide trip to West Virginia in May
Ever been to Appalachia? It's one of the prettiest, yet poorest parts of our country. You can make a difference there this spring. Fred and Bonnie Ebbesen of Good Shepherd Lutheran church in Appleton will lead a week long Thrivent Builds Worldwide trip to West Virginia May 4-9. You do not have to be a skilled tradesman as there are a variety of jobs and people are very willing to help you learn. As a member of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, you enjoy discounted trip cost: $475 for Thrivent Financial members, $755 for non-members. Travel expenses to and from West Virginia are not included. Contact the Ebbesens by March 30 at fred.ebbesen@gmail.com with any questions or to express interest. Make a difference in somebody's life - and yours too.
Help change lives – even your own: Join a local Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity project!
Our chapter will be sponsoring three Thrivent Builds Homes projects this year, and we’re recruiting volunteers now! Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity helps individuals achieve greater economic independence through the building of decent, simple, affordable homes. Building these homes is more than just boards and blocks. It's sweat and smiles, borne of hard work and expressions of faith. There are many ways you can help … and they're not all swinging hammers.

Teach Your Kids to Share Day: Register to attend this fun, educational event!
Thrivent Financial is sponsoring an exciting new event in 2009 during Financial Literacy Month: Teach Your Kids to Share Day. Events will be held nationwide on April 24 to bring families together for fun and learning. Each event -- for kids ages 6 to 10, parents and grandparents -- will include the Parents, Kids and Money Matters(R) educational workshop, dinner and interactive activities to help kids learn about sharing, saving and spending. Each child will receive a Share/Save/Spend Piggy Bank.
Our chapter will be involved in an event in our region: - Date: April 24, 2009 - Time: 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. - Place: EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh
Register to attend: For just $10 per family, you can enjoy this fabulous event! To register, visit www.thrivent.com/shareday. We hope to see you there!
Join hands, improve the community while having fun, and watch the power of membership grow! We encourage you to participate in the 10th annual JOIN HANDS DAY on Saturday, May 2, 2009. This national day of volunteering is sponsored by America's fraternal benefit societies, including Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, to generate awareness about the impact of grassroots volunteerism. It encourages youth and adults to come together to identify, plan and conduct activities to improve their communities.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and our members strongly support the purpose of this special day and the impact it has on communities nationwide. Last year, youth and adult members conducted nearly 3,000 activities across the country.
How can you participate in 2009? It's easy. Find a need, form a service team of individuals from six separate Thrivent Financial households, and contact one of our chapter leaders to see how we can help you. We have many resources to help make your activity great, including: - A checklist that includes everything you need to know to conduct a successful activity and receive funding from the chapter. - Promotional items to help you recruit volunteers and publicize your activity for optimum attendance. - Funding to purchase T-shirts, refreshments, supplies and more.
To strengthen the impact of this special day of service, we prefer chapter service teams to conduct JOIN HANDS DAY activities on or near May 2, but eligible activities may be held between April 1 and June 30. Also, activities held on May 2 may be considered for national recognition by JOIN HANDS DAY—see the JOIN HANDS DAY website at www.joinhandsday.org.
You’ll find that the rewards of participating far outweigh the time and effort involved in planning an activity. So tell your family, friends and congregation about this day, then "join hands" and see the power of membership grow!
Your chapter leadership board is here to help you along the way. Please call Ranae Sommers at (920) 832-4064, fsommers@new.rr.com for more information.
How to help your congregation
Did you know that Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has a program called Care in Congregations® where funding is provided to Thrivent Financial members to conduct fund-raising and/or hands-on service activities to benefit your congregation or its related Lutheran institutions? In fact, Thrivent Financial members are encouraged to use the funds to help the congregation in its ministry to the community. If you see a need in your congregation that could be helped through this funding, please contact a Thrivent Financial congregational coordinator in your congregation. If you don't know who your three congregational coordinators are, please contact Oliver Kruse at (920) 989-1943, okruse@hughes.net and he will help you get in touch with a coordinator.
How can you make a difference?
How often have you asked yourself, "What can I do in life to really make a difference?" How often have you seen a need and said, "I wish there was something I could do?" Thrivent Financial for Lutherans gives you an opportunity to make a positive impact right where you live. Now there is something you can do. Get involved and help others through the Care Abounds in Communities® program. Contact a member of your chapter leadership board as noted in this newsletter for information about how easy it is to help others through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
