Thrivent Builds with
Habitat for Humanity

Thrivent Builds with Habitat for
Humanity is an alliance between Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and
Habitat for Humanity International. This is a four-year, $105 million
program to give people a “hand up” to people who lack decent shelter and
a way to help families achieve greater economic independence. Currently,
1.5 billion people worldwide lack decent shelter and 14 million
Americans have critical housing needs. Volunteers work in partnership
with homeowners to build decent, simple, affordable homes. The
homeowners are required to put in hundreds of hours of labor, building
their home, as well as homes for others. The homeowners buy their homes
with no-profit mortgages and their payments are used to build more homes
in your community.
We are excited to have video clips available which allows you to see
volunteers in action, learn more about the Thrivent Builds Mobile and
more. You can also sign-up on line if you are interested in
volunteering at a build site near you! Click on the Videos button
to learn more.
We built an ADDITIONAL 313 homes
nationwide in 2006 and the goal for 2007 is 400 homes. 35 of the
homes were built in Wisconsin and 7 of the homes were within our region.
We have an ambitious goal of 12 homes in the Southwest Wisconsin region
for 2007. Here is where we are building our homes this year.

How are we able to accomplish this? Thrivent
Financial contributes 65% toward the cost of the home, 10% by our local
Thrivent Financial chapter leadership board and volunteers and the
remaining 25% comes from fund-raising and/or in-kind donations through
the Habitat affiliate. The second goal is 50% of volunteers on each
build will be Lutherans—and 25% of those Lutherans will be Thrivent
Financial members.
Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity includes
four programs to help end poverty housing and help families achieve
greater economic independence.
Thrivent Builds Homes is a national program that joins the
nearly 3 million Thrivent Financial members with Habitat for Humanity
volunteers, other Lutherans, their families and their communities to
build up to 500 homes in the U.S. annually by 2008.
Thrivent Builds Giving is a program offered by
Thrivent Financial to its members, in which Thrivent Financial
contributes $1 for every $2 its members donate to Habitat for Humanity,
up to a maximum supplement of $300 per member annually. Funds raised
through Thrivent Builds Giving will support Habitat for Humanity. The
goal is to raise $2 million annually by 2008.
Thrivent Builds Worldwide is a program of short-term (one- to
three-week) international and domestic working trips for individuals or
groups to build Habitat houses in partnership with families facing
critical housing needs.
Thrivent Builds Neighborhoods will provide multiple grants each year to
community organizations, coalitions and nonprofits for projects that
will measurably improve poverty housing in specific neighborhoods.
