Arlington County Chapter, May 2007
Progressive Dinner, June 3, and Other Events to Benefit AFAC

All members and friends are invited to a Progressive Dinner on Sunday, June 3.  The event begins at 4:00pm with appetizers at Resurrection.  From there, we will travel to Faith for soup and salad at 5:15pm.  Next, we hop-skip-jump to Our Savior for the main course and keynote speech at 6:15pm.  Finally, we will enjoy dessert at Advent at 7:30pm.  Youth from each congregation will help serve at their home church, and musically inclined youth will also be asked to provide entertainment during the courses.  Thrivent Financial will provide funding for the meal through its Join Hands Day program so that all ticket sale proceeds (and other donations) can directly benefit the Arlington Food Assistance Center (our chapter's focus organization this year).  Tickets are available at each congregation, or you may contact Elizabeth Morse (emorse@centexhomes.com) or Chris Johnston (chris1223966@yahoo.com).

On Saturday, May 12, from 3:30pm to 7:30pm, Thrivent volunteers assisted AFAC in receiving and stocking donations from the Letter Carrier Food Drive.

Additionally, each congregation has chosen a month to conduct a cereal drive for AFAC.  Perhaps a little friendly, inter-congregation competition will result in record-setting quantities of cereal donated this summer and fall!  The schedule is as follows:  July -- Our Savior, August -- Resurrection, September -- Faith, October -- Advent.  Deliver boxes of cereal to each congregation throughout its designated month.

One Month Until Relay For Life! Join Us!

We are halfway to our goal of 15 team members!  We would love more company as we walk/run/stroll/roll around the track at Wakefield HS on June 23 and 24.  Please visit the Arlington Relay For Life website at www.relayarlington.org.  You can join the team; make a donation (ask your employer to match your contribution); purchase a luminaria or two or more (or find out what a luminaria is!) and learn much more about Relay For Life and how this amazing event supports people with cancer and the people who love them.  Contact Team Captain Marianne Hetzer at mwhetzer@comcast.net to find out about the Dodge Nitro Raffle and the Pampered Chef fundraiser.

We Are Gold!

The Arlington Chapter did, indeed, achieve Gold status for 2006.  To earn this distinction, the chapter:
    Utilized 100 percent ($11,310) of it Care Abounds in Communities funding;
    Filled five required chapter leader positions and recruited two new leaders;
    Raised over $2,000 for Bethania Kids;
    Held nine chapter meetings;
    Mailed four chapter newsletters;
    Hosted a Congregational Coordinator training event;
    Hosted Thrivent Financial Awareness Day.
The requirements for achieving Gold status in 2007 are fewer in number but much more challenging in scope.  We are charged with recording 5,000 volunteer hours and raising over $37,000!  Please help us meet and surpass this mark!
