DON'T BURY THAT COIN or HIDE YOUR LIGHT !
We have all heard the story of the servant who rather than chance loosing the money given him by his master, buried the money thus it did no good for anyone. The servant wasted the chance to make that money shine. Some of us are missing the chance to use our CHOICE DOLLARS program to benefit the large number of Lutheran charitable organizations like: your church; Lutheran Campus Ministry as it keeps the light of faith alive in college students; The Navajo Lutheran School at Rock Point, AZ as it nurtures the bodies and minds of Navajo children; or Global Health Ministries and Lutheran World Relief as they bring the light of hope to the suffering of the world. Participation is simple and easy, without any complicated forms to complete. You'll be able to vote or direct Choice Dollars in a way that's convenient for you. Visit www.thrivent.com/thriventchoice or call 800-THRIVENT (800-847-4836) and say “Thrivent Choice” for more information. They will help you verify if you have Choice Dollars and get them working to bring the Light of the Spirit alive.
Since 9/30/2010, Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church has received $1,435 in Thrivent Choice dollars. Choice Dollars are supporting their Special Fund for the renovation of the Bob Nichols Memorial Fellowship Hall.
Remember even small amounts, when paired with others, can make a huge difference.

PUMPKIN TIME IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER
Pumpkin Patch Craft Fair Peace Lutheran Church & School 3430 N Fourth Street Saturday, October 1st, 2011; 9 am to 3 PM The day includes fun activities for the kids, all kinds of craft items for sale, a silent auction and of course, PUMPKINS! Come by and BUY an early Christmas Gift! The preschool once again thanks the Grand Canyon Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans for granting up to $500 in supplemental funds from the Care Abounds in Communities program for this event. The craft fair proceeds help fund the preschool and the outreach “Pumpkin Patch” program. Each year, hundreds of elementary aged groups come to the Pumpkin Patch throughout the month of October on field trips to hear stories, play games, see how pumpkins grow (when they grow) and purchase a small pumpkin. Volunteers are needed to read stories, monitor games and help with set up during the week day field trip times.
Crafters are encouraged to reserve a space (inside or outside) for the day. Please submit request to ruggrsab@yahoo.com. A silent auction with donated items from crafters helps raise funds as well.

YOUR CHANCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Imagine yourself as part of a group of caring people with the opportunity to decide how best to use funding that benefits people in need and your community. Imagine being able to increase the impact that money has through community involvement, awareness, additional funds raised and the caring work of many hands. And imagine being able to help Thrivent Financial members come together for charitable, educational and social purposes. Chapter leaders with the Grand Canyon Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans do just that! And with chapter leader elections just around the corner on NOV. 6, the time to get involved is NOW! Our chapter will have assistant leadership opportunities for next year. The only requirements are: being a Thrivent Financial member; a desire to help people; and willing to meet 4 times per year.
We very much need you on the chapter leadership board—without a full board, our chapter will not qualify for the funding that helps people and our community. Help us take full advantage of this unique opportunity to significantly impact our community and contact President Sue Ruggles 928-699-5960 or Vice-President John Serkland 928-214-0072 today to find out more.
PAGE FOOD BANK BENEFITS FROM LOCALLY SUPPORTED THRIVENT SERVICE TEAM: The Circle of Page (AZ) Come to the Banquet Food Bank continues to benefit from the Thrivent Grand Canyon Chapter. . . . Through the chapter, the locally supported Page Thrivent Service Team has secured $500 for the Food Bank so far this year and amassed more than 1,200 hours of service to the community. With the economic downturn and increased food costs, the Page Food Bank has had several weeks with little food on the shelves. Please donate to your local Food Bank. The following items are always needed: peanut butter, canned or box soups, boxed cereal (any kind/size), oatmeal (round canister or box with single servings), medium-sized juices, canned refried beans, canned tomatoes (any type/size), canned or boxed milk, boxed dinner helper mixes, spaghetti sauce or canned spaghetti, flour, sugar, salt or other staples, empty egg cartons and used plastic bags. Consider donating your time, too! Distribution volunteers are needed at the Page Food Bank on Tuesdays (4 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and Thursdays (10 a.m. to Noon). For more information, call 928-645-4965.
PACKING HOLIDAY FOOD BOXES FOR N. AZ FOOD BANK
Once again Tom James will be spear heading the ever popular holiday food box packing at N. AZ Food Bank in Flagstaff. Through Care Abounds in Communities, $1,000 for the purchase of turkeys and other food needed will go to N. AZ Food Bank. Then we will all gather at the Food Bank for the service project to pack the boxes. Chopping wood donated from various sources also keeps some volunteers busy. Watch your congregation's newsletter and bulletins to get exact date, time, and directions, but Nov. 12 or 19 are most likely. You can also reach Tom at 928-527-0750 for details and to volunteer.
