Habitat for Humanity is building eight houses at the corner of 185th Avenue and Farmington Road (behind Heidi’s tavern) in Aloha. Many of the local churches in the Tualatin Valley Chapter of Thrivent (about 17 congregations) are going to help fund-raise and collect work teams to help with the build on one of those houses. We are co-sponsoring this house build effort with the South Central Chapter of Thrivent (another 20 congregations).
We would love to have as many congregations as possible participate in this event. In order for your congregation to participate, I need the name of someone in your congregation who is willing to serve as coordinator for the build team from your congregation. The build is happening in the spring of 2011, over a 2 to 3 month period.
As a build coordinator, you will be asked to:
· Tell people about the build event.
· Post a sign-up sheet for volunteers to help with the build 2-3 weeks before your assigned build day.
· Let the Habitat build site coordinator know how many people to expect on the build day.
· Help promote/coordinate a fund raiser (Thrivent is willing to help with this) to raise money toward the build – we need $12,000 to complete the build.
· Coordinate the logistics between the build team and the Thrivent/Habitat site management team on build day.
If this sounds like something you are interested in helping with, contact Steve Bindewald, who is collecting the names and contact information for the build coordinators from the participating Tualatin Valley Chapter of Thrivent Financial churches.
We can build a Habitat home right in our local community!
Thanks,
Steve Bindewald
