Care Abounds in Communities(TM)
The NE Seattle Chapter is starting into the second half of 2004.  We have had several successful Care Abounds in Communities projects so far this year and it is time to think about future projects.  We are continuing to make a difference in our community.  Our chapter has about $5000 remaining in Care Abounds in Communities funds that are available for community projects.  You are the eyes and ears of this chapter.  If you are aware of needs in our community that fit the parameters of these funds, please contact a NE Seattle Chapter board member, contact your congregational coordinator, or call me at 206-363-8871.  We will be happy to respond to requests and give suggestions for completing a successful project.  The board would like to have 30 days lead time for projects to provide for prioritization of projects and avoid scrambling at the last second to meet the guidelines for community events.

Care in Congregations(TM)
Only two of our chapter congregations have used money from their Care in Congregations funds for 2004.  Our chapter congregations have at least $1300 this year for projects that can benefit the congregation or be used in the community.  Many congregations are continually involved in Lutheran World Relief quilting or school kits.  Care in Congregations funds can be used for both of these or other needs in your community.  These fund may be used for supporting your local food bank or to stock up your congregation's food bank.  Simply contact your congregational coordinator to access these funds.  Now is the time to be thinking about ways your church would like to use these funds for this year.  This money does not carry over to the next year.

Volunteer Opportunities
The Northeast Seattle Chapter is looking for volunteers to serve on the chapter leadership board.  You may want to serve your community in this capacity.  You can be appointed for the remainder of this year and be elected for 2005.  Terms are for one year and have a 4 year limit.  Our chapter needs fresh recruits and fresh ideas to meet the needs of the area we serve.  Many positions require access to the internet and training is available. A good way to think about this is; "even the turtle made no progress until he stuck his neck out."    Please contact us at neseattlechapter@yahoo.com or call me at 206-363-8871.

Together, we can,
David Munger
Chapter President
