North Seattle Chapter, 2006 Spring News
Projects
Our Northeast Seattle Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is off to a good start for this year.  Several important projects have been completed and others are pending.  These projects include help for LATCH which provides housing for needy families, meals for the homeless, Columbia Lutheran Home, Foss Home, Quilting Batting for 13 church quilting groups in our area, refurbishing a playground at the Shoreline Children's center, a youth vollyball tournament, and a Mission trip to work at a Lutheran School in Africa.

Join Hands Day
We are getting prepared to participate in Join Hands Day. This is a program that involves youth and adults working together to make our community a better place. Join Hands Day projects take place between April 1 and June 30.  National Join Hands Day will be Saturday, May 6.  We do recognize that not all projects can be done on one day and those that do take longer are just as important and make a significant impact in our area.

Care In Congregations®
As members of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, you may know of needs in our community that are eligible for Chapter resources.  Please contact a Chapter Board Member if you have or need information.  Our vision is to help if we are able.

Each church in the Northeast Chapter is eligible for Care in Congregations' funds.  This is money that is set aside for your congregation to be used as you decide.  It can be used for church repairs, worship materials, Lutheran World Relief School Kits, and local food banks.  All it takes to access funds from the Care in Congregations account is to have in place three designated coordinators for your congregation and six Thrivent households to help with the project or projects that the congregation chooses.  Most churches have $1300 in this account and the larger congregations have $1600.  These funds do not carry over to the next year and we encourage congregations to use the money each year.  If you do not know where to start, a phone call to Dave Munger, at (206) 363-8871, will get you directions and information.

Habitat for Humanity
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has a commitment to Habitat for Humanity to provide housing for those who find ownership of a house beyond their grasp.  There are Habitat projects in King County and you are encouraged to get involved with financial assistance and volunteering at the Habitat sites.  You can learn more about Thrivent's involvement in Habitat by contacting Habitat Specialist Anne Anderson at (253) 661-3936, or email anne.anderson@thrivent.com

Your Northeast Seattle Chapter  thanks you for your past support and challenges you to become involved.
