North Seattle Chapter, Summer News - 2006
Projects
Northeast Seattle Chapter is starting the second half of this year.  We have already accomplished several projects that have made our community a better place in the first six months.  Our second annual "Join Hands Day" projects helped Northwest Harvest, Hopelink Food Bank, and North Helpline Food Bank.  A special "Thank you" for all who participated in those projects.  It is amazing what can be accomplished when youth and adults work together.  As this is being written, our Ailanga mission group is in Tanzania working to improve the quality of life in that part of Africa.  Again, thanks to all who worked to make that project a reality.

Habitat
One of our goals this summer is to help Habitat and have some fun doing it.  As you may know, Habitat has a project in Seattle converting an old house into a livable home for a family that needs a helping hand.  Our Chapter is conducting a fund raiser to help that project.  We have 50 tickets on a first-come, first-serve basis to the Mariners for a baseball game on Tuesday, August 29th.  We are looking for people who would like to make a donation to Habitat and enjoy a baseball game.  There is a limit of four tickets per donation.  Please make your check payable to NORTHEAST SEATTLE CHAPTER , and state the number of tickets you are requesting.  Send your donation and request by August 18 to:

David Munger
19200 11th Ave. N. E.
Shoreline, WA  98155
(206) 363-8871

You will enjoy watching the Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Angels play baseball at Safeco Field.  The Mariners have a bus that takes you to and from the Northgate Park and Ride for $3.00 each way.  You can avoid parking and catch the go-home bus next to the Stadium on Edgar Martinez Way.

If you would like to make a donation to Habitat and not go to the game, your donation will be greatly appreciated.

Congregational Funds
The Chapter board members encourage all the churches to use their Congregational Funds for 2006.  Funds will not carry over to the next year.   Contact your Congregational Coordinator if you have a need in your church or community.  Your Coordinator will know if there is money remaining for this year.

Each church's Coordinators will be involved in a short training session by the Chapter to review the procedures and receive an updated "How To" manual.

Elections
The Chapter board will have an election again this November to elect board members for 2007.  We are looking for nominees.  This is an excellent way to become involved in the community and to learn first hand how Thrivent Financial for Lutherans makes our community a better place.  Since the merger of Lutheran Brotherhood and Aid Association of Lutherans into Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, there are term limits for the Chapter leaders.  We need new people to carry on important charitable work in our community.  If you are interested, the board will meet at 12:00 noon on September 12, 2006, at Bethany Lutheran Church of Greenlake (7400 Woodlawn Ave. N. E.).  Join us for an opportunity to observe a working session of board members.
