North Seattle Chapter, Spring 2007
Join Hands Day
Join Hands Day is about to get under way for 2007.  Our chapter has money available for projects that bring adults and youth together to make a difference in our community.  The official opening of Join Hands Day is April 1.  The National Join Hands Day is Saturday, May 15.  Projects done on that day may qualify for National Join Hands Day Awards.  Projects for Join Hands Day are to be started after April 1 and must be completed before June 30.

Last year, 93 percent of Thrivent Chapters conducted Join Hands Day projects resulting in nearly 3,000 activities and generating 600,000 volunteer hours of service.  If you have a project for Join Hands Day, or would like to get more information, please contact David Munger, at (206) 363-8871, or any Chapter officer.

Care Abounds in Community® Projects
Chapter 30185 has several Care Abounds in Community project applications for 2007.  Those projects include dinners for the homeless, Lutherwood Camp and Retreat Center, LATCH (Lutheran Alliance to Create Housing), Foss Home, Compass Center, Maple Leaf Hygiene Center, and LYONS Dinner Theater.  We are also working on a project to provide quilt batting for all the Lutheran Church quilting groups in Shoreline and North Seattle.

Care In Congregations®
Each congregation has money available for Care in Congregations projects.  This money may be used for your own church or in the community.  Care in Congregations project ideas may include, but are not limited to, Lutheran World Relief Health and School Kits, music for your church, maintenance equipment, office supplies, local food banks, feeding the hungry or whatever your congregation decides is important for the well being of the church or community.  We encourage congregations to plan ahead for the use of this money as it does not carry over to the next year.

Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is active in our area again this year and we encourage each congregation to get involved in the Tukwila building project.  The Ground-breaking Ceremony is scheduled for March 24.  The work week for the Tukwila project will be Tuesday through Saturday.  Congregations can help by:

1.   Organizing a work party to help on the build site, and
2.   Organizing a fund raising event to help with the expenses of the project.

Both of these activites are needed to make Thrivent funds available.  For more information, you may contact Habitat board member Kerri Reeves, at (206) 292-5240, or Anne Anderson at anneanderson@thrivent.com.  Building hope and changing lives is a great way to make our community a better place.
