North Seattle Chapter, Northeast Seattle Spring News Spring 2008
So Much To Do....So Little Time
Your local chapter has been busy as beavers this year with many community projects in the works already.  The quilting groups in the NE Seattle area have received batting for making quilts, and we are happy to report that a new group has started at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.  We are very thankful for all the dedicated volunteers who work many hours to provide warmth and comfort to needy people in both local and far away places.  Care Abounds in Community projects that are fund raisers include:  Jubilee Dinner, Columbia Lutheran Home, Foss Spring Concert, LMS Dinner Auction, Shoreline Children's Center, and Ailanga.  The chapter officers appreciate all the volunteers that make these projects possible.

Join Hands Day Projects
Join Hands Day will be available from April 1st through June 30th this year.  This is a program for youth and adults to work together providing a benefit to our community.  There are funds available for Join Hands Projects.  Contact a Chapter officer for more information or call Dave Munger at (206) 363-8871.  Our Chapter has participated in Join Hands Day every year that it has been available and we thank the volunteers for past support and encourage you to work on future projects.  National Join Hands Day is May 3rd, and we encourage you to help make this a special volunteer day.

Congregational Funds Available
Please be aware that Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has a program called Care in Congregations® where funding is provided to members to conduct fund-raising and/or hands-on service activities to benefit your congregation or its related Lutheran institutions? In fact, Thrivent Financial members are encouraged to use the funds to help the congregation in its ministry to the community .  Congregational funds are available by contacting your local Congregational Coordinator with a project idea.  It takes six Thrivent households willing to help with the project to get it started.  Lutheran World Relief school and health kits are popular Congregational projects, and support for local food banks are good projects in the community.

New Board Members welcome
The Northeast Seattle Chapter consists of a group of volunteers dedicated to making a difference in our community.  New board members are welcome and needed as terms expire.  This is an excellent way to provide a valuable service to your community.  Interested?  Contact a current chapter member, or Dave Munger at (206) 363-8871.

Thrivent Builds
Several Lutheran congregations have been involved with Habitat for Humanity through Thrivent Builds.  Some of the churches have signed up for 2008 already!  A meeting has been scheduled for Saturday, April 5th, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 8316 39th Ave. SW.  A renovation project in West Seattle needs volunteers.  You can RSVP by calling Leslie Hoots at (206) 938-3074, or by email at lesliehoots@aol.com or anne.anderson@thrivent.com.
