Elections! Two Elections! Voice your Opinion and VOTE!
Chapter Leadership Board-Think and Act Locally! Please vote for next year's chapter leadership board. As a membership organization, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is unique to the financial services world in many ways. Our members choose who will represent them both on the national board of directors governing the organization as well as choose their local chapter leadership board. The election process is a very important way for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans to demonstrate two required elements of a fraternal benefit society: 1. An active, viable chapter system that involves many members 2. A representative form of government.
Without this election process, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans would not qualify as a tax-exempt fraternal benefit society and would not be able to provide the benefits to needy individuals, congregations and communities that it does today. Please exercise your right to vote in your Mount Baker Chapter's leadership board election.
Each year the Mount Baker Chapter holds as many elections as possible for the convenience of our members. Will your church host its own election this year? To make voting easy for all Thrivent members, each church is offered the opportunity to host an election on either October 8th, 15th, or 22nd. Your congregational coordinator has received information from this year's chapter election coordinator, our chapter vice-president, Clarice Solvik. But, you can help too! A Thrivent member must proctor each election site on the day of the election. The task is simple and ensures that your church's Thrivent members can voice their vote easily. So get out the vote and be involved by either helping with this year's chapter leadership board elections or by casting your vote in October.
National Board of Directors Elections-Think and Act Nationally!
This year, we are conducting the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Board of Directors election through direct mail. You are eligible to vote and will receive the mailing if you are a benefit member, that is, a member who owns a Thrivent Financial life insurance or annuity product. The opportunity to elect your Board of Directors is one of the many benefits you have as a member of a fraternal benefit society. Please participate -- your vote matters!
Will your Church be Represented?
On Saturday, October 7 from 9:00-12:00, all current congregational coordinators, interested potential new coordinators, and every involved project team member from this year's community service team activities are invited to join in the celebration of success. Over $29,000 dollars has been given away this year to needy organizations and individuals in our communities! Your involvement in this effort has been wonderful! So whether you sewed quilts, fed the hungry, worked at Lutherwood, helped build a home through Habitat, or any other of the many successful projects this year, let's celebrate! We will be meeting at Burlington Lutheran Church in Burlington, WA. This host church is conveniently located just off I-5. A catered lunch will be served so please RSVP by September 18th. You may contact any current board member to RSVP. Their emails and phone numbers are provided in this newsletter.

IMAGINE what a difference you can make!
Imagine yourself as part of a group of caring people with the opportunity to decide how best to use funding that benefits people in need and your community. Imagine being able to increase the impact that money has through community involvement, awareness, additional funds raised and the caring work of many hands. Chapter leaders with the Mount Baker Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans do just that with the Care Abounds in Communities® program! And with chapter leader elections just around the corner, the time to get involved is NOW! Our chapter will have several leadership opportunities for 2007. The only requirements are: being a Thrivent Financial member; a desire to help people; and five to 15 hours per month volunteer time depending on the position.
We very much need you on the chapter leadership board--without a full board, our chapter will not qualify for the funding that helps people and our community. Help us take full advantage of this unique opportunity to significantly impact our community and contact Clarice Solvik, at 360-592-2820 today to find out more or add your name to the election ballot.
If serving on the chapter leadership board does not work for you but you'd like to be involved or volunteer in some capacity, there are many other volunteer opportunities, both short-term and longer-term, available as well. Please contact us and we'll describe how you can make a difference through the Thrivent chapter system in a way that fits into your schedule.
Mount Baker Chapter-Making a Difference in Our Communities
In 2006, the Mount Baker Chapter and its many active members have volunteered many hours to many projects. Through the gifts of time, money and creative ideas, lives have been changed in positive ways. Each issue will feature some of the completed projects sponsored by our chapter! Congratulations, and thank you for your volunteerism in our communities! In February 2006 a Valentine's Day dinner helped raise funds to send a group of volunteers to assist in improving the living conditions of orphans in Mexico!
On April 1st many planned, participated and enjoyed the Good Shephard Traveling Table. This fund raising event helps support needy individuals. The lady participants wore hats and gave their hearts and dollars to help others.
Hosted a garage sale? In June the Wisteria House benefited from such an event and is now better able to serve its children and adults!
Many hands make light work, and this Spring the Lopez Island Children's Center was built a storage shed to utilize for the safe storage of items.
They needed a ramp so we built it! By creating a handicap entry and ramp a community member now has mobility!
These are just a few of the many projects conducted this year in the Mount Baker Chapter. Whether you help by working, planning, or donating time, money or prayers, YOU made a difference! THANK YOU THRIVENT VOLUNTEERS!
GivingPlus® Your gift to a Lutheran Organization Can Accomplish Even More!
Are you aware that as a member of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, financial gifts you make to a Lutheran organization might be able to be supplemented by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans? Through Thrivent Financial's GivingPlus® program, members can donate financial gifts to two different Lutheran organizations enrolled in the program each year, and Thrivent Financial will contribute $1 for every $2, up to $300 per year for each organization. For example, if you donate gifts of $600 or more to two eligible Lutheran organizations each, Thrivent Financial will contribute an additional $600 ($300 for each organization). In addition, Thrivent Financial will contribute an additional $25 for members who volunteer 25 hours or more at the organization receiving their gift.
All you need to do is complete a GivingPlus Member Gift form (available online or from the Lutheran organization) and submit it with your donation to the Lutheran organization. It's a very simple process.
For complete details and guidelines about this one-of-a-kind member benefit program and for copies of the Member Gift form, go to www.thrivent.com/fraternal/churchcommunity/givingplus.html.
