Habitat for Humanity Work Parties Scheduled
Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity helps individuals achieve greater economic independence through the building of decent, simple, affordable homes. Building these homes is more than just boards and blocks. It's sweat and smiles, borne of hard work and expressions of faith. There are many ways to help … and they're not all swinging hammers. Volunteer Work Events have been scheduled, and an invitation postcard has been sent to all Mid King County Chapter members. As a Congregational Coordinator you are asked to work with your congregation to encourage volunteers to attend these events.
Find out more by talking with Bob Bliesner and learn about this great opportunity.

Social, Recognition and Awareness-Building Events
Social, recognition and awareness-building events are important for our membership organization. A logical place for this to occur is often at the congregation level. But how can you as congregational coordinators fund these events? You have two options: 1. Raise/collect funds in conjunction with a Care in Congregations® activity. Congregational service teams can host fund-raisers, which can be as simple as a collection or appeal. The funds raised, along with supplemental funds from the Care in Congregations program, can be used to pay for the expenses associated with social, recognition and awareness-building events that occur throughout the year.
2. Ask your chapter for operating funds. As a congregational coordinator, you can request operating funds from your chapter leadership board to help fund these types of events. A portion of the operating funds provided to chapters includes an allocation for social, recognition and awareness-building events. Because your leadership board may receive many requests for operating funds, be sure to highlight the reasons and potential benefits of the event as well as how the funds will be used.
If your chapter leadership board provides operating funds to you for social, recognition or awareness-building events, the chapter leadership board will report it as an expense. To prevent double counting of the dollars as expenses, please do not report as expenses any operating funds provided to you from the chapter leadership board. The board is accountable for all operating funds and is responsible for reporting these expenses.
Tools for getting a community service team started
Your role as congregational coordinator is focused on helping the congregation. But you may also want to help others in your community through the Care Abounds in Communities® program. But where and how do you get started? It's as easy as ABC 1-2-3. This online tool—located at www.thrivent.com/ABC—is available to help you translate your desire to help into an action plan for making a difference. It provides ideas, checklists and tips so you can successfully execute a community service team activity through your chapter. Here's a glimpse of topics you can read about: *** Getting things started *** 1. Identify recipient of funds and service activity. 2. Form your community service team. 3. Explore your capabilities; select your activity. *** Making a plan *** 1. Request chapter leadership board funding approval. 2. Plan activity logistics and details. 3. Get the word out. *** Do it! And Celebrate! *** 1. Do it! Carry out your plans to help others. 2. Celebrate completion of activity and recognize your volunteers. 3. Tell us what you did. Then pay bills and provide funds to recipient. If you have questions, please contact one of your chapter leadership board members.
