Mid King County Chapter, Congregation Coordinator News - July 2008
There is a need in our community or congregation and we've got our Service Team together. What now?
The answer to this question is one of the most improtant responses that a congregational coordinator can make.  It is your enthusiasm, encouragement, and knowledge that service teams rely on to get the job done.  Once a team has formed and they have a project in mind, determine if the apropriate funding is Care Abounds in Communities or Care in Congregations.  This determination is made easily by answering in the question, "Who will benefit from this project?"  If it is the congregation, or an organization within the congregation, then Care in Congregations funding should be used.  If the benefactor of the project is an individual, or a non profit organization outside of the congregation, then  the team should apply for Care Abounds in Communities funding.
The Care in Congregations® program gives you a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in your congregation and its associated Lutheran institutions through fund-raising and hands-on service activities, such as painting the church hall or raising funds for new choir robes.
*******************Care in Congregations® is a simple four step process:
1. Plan - identify a need, form a congregational service team and discuss with congregational coordinators and congregation.
2. Request - request funds and approval online at www.thrivent.com
3. Conduct - plan and conduct the activity involving as many people as possible.
4. Report - report volunteer hours, member attendance, total attendance, net funds raised, total expenses incurred and total households actively involved. Funds are sent to the congregation and the Receipts, Funds Raised and Expenses Report is submitted to the chapter leadership board.

Get Involved at the Chapter Level
Imagine yourself as part of a group of caring people with the opportunity to decide how best to use funding that benefits people in need and your community. Imagine being able to increase the impact that money has through community involvement, awareness, additional funds raised and the caring work of many hands.
Chapter leaders with the Mid King County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans do just that with the Care Abounds in Communities® program! And with chapter leader elections just around the corner, the time to get involved is NOW! Our chapter will have several leadership opportunities for 2009.

Elections for 2009 Leadership Board begin in September
We very much need you on the chapter leadership board--without a full board, our chapter will not qualify for the funding that helps people and our community. Help us take full advantage of this unique opportunity to significantly impact our community and contact a member of the MKCC Leadership Board today to find out more or add your name to the election ballot.
If serving on the chapter leadership board does not work for you but you'd like to be involved or volunteer in some capacity, there are many other volunteer opportunities, both short-term and longer-term, available as well. Please contact us and we'll describe how you can make a difference through the Thrivent chapter system in a way that fits into your schedule.
