Care Abounds in Communities funding for 2012 in jeopardy.

Volunteer needed for Director of Congregational Advocates position on the MKCC Leadership Team.

$23,425.00  was distributed to service teams in Mid King County Chapter in 2011.  In order to qualify for chapter funds in 2012, we need volunteers to fill 5 required positions on the Leadership Board.
At this time, the required position of Director of Congregational Advocates is vacant.  The “job description” for this volunteer position includes:

• Serve as the key chapter connection to the advocates and provide
ongoing support, coaching and recognition.
• Monitor congregational advocate vacancies in congregations, and
work with Chapter Leaders, Thrivent Financial representatives, and Lutheran Engagement
Team staff to fill vacant positions.
• Promote and encourage participation in charitable programs, such as
Thrivent Choice and Care Abounds in Communities, at the
congregational and community level.

For our chapter, you would primarily be the liaison between the Congregational Advocates and the leadership board.  You would be the chapter contact person for funding requests by advocates, and bring the requests to board meetings for approval.  Then you would report the results of locally supported projects online.  Please contact Tammy at tjhausman@comcast.net or 253-517-7846  if you are interested or with questions you have.  Current and previous members of the board are available and willing to help a new volunteer with the requirements of this position.

Changes for Congregations
Each congregation can now have up to 8 Congregational Advocates.  This change impacts congregations in a couple of ways.
First, it provides framework for a committee or small group of members to form and plan social and educational events in the congregational setting.  Advocates can request funding for these events from the Leadership Board Operational Funding.
Second, Chapter Volunteers who are benefit members receive additional Thrivent Choice Dollars.  The Thrivent Choice program allows members to choose where they want Thrivent to send charitable outreach funds, including to their congregation.
Please encourage more members in your congregation to be involved.
