FYI for Congregational Coordinators and service team members - The amount allocated to our chapter for community funding requests is less than last year. In order to be able to approve as many requests as possible throughout the year, the Leadership Board voted to limit each request to $1,200. The Board makes every effort to spread the funding amongst as many causes and as many congregations as possible. Funding requests should be sent to Kathy White who returns to the position of Records Director following the required two year absence. Welcome back Kathy! There are two ways to access on-line request forms - on the Thrivent website you will find a blank form to print out and fill in the information. On the Lutheransonline site, the form is prefilled with Kathy White's name and address.
On-line training is available for Congregational Coordinators who want to learn more about using our Thrivent web site. Training lasts between 30 minutes and one hour. Sessions are available between 8 a.m and 3:30 PM Central time, Monday through Friday.
IMPORTANT: To do the training, you must be able to be on your computer and your telephone at the same time. Register on-line at fraternal@thrivent.com or by contacting Fraternal Service Center at 1-800-236-3736
Care in Congregations FYI - Receipts for Hands-on Congregation projects should be turned in to Kathy White before year end.
Youth Director, Peter Berg is working with other Youth leaders in our chapter to involve our youth in fun activities combined with sharing Lutheran values and beliefs. The most recent was a Ski retreat held Feb 27 - March 1st at Mt Hood. There were 47 participants from 6 congregations that stayed at a lodge in Government Camp, OR spending the weekend skiing, snowboarding, tubing, and spending time together in Bible Study, Praise, and Fellowship. Peter says, "We were blessed with several feet of new snow in the previous week, so conditions were ideal for our stay on Mt. Hood. Highlights of the weekend included zany games, all-you-can-eat meals, a tubing run behind the lodge, singing and dancing, and teens getting connected with each other from across the county and connected with God." What did others think? Here is a quote from Vicar Bryan of St. Paul Lutheran Church: "The Youth Ski Event? Awesome !! That that many youth from Clark County getting together to celebrate God in their lives - it was impressive! - let's have more of 'em ."
Most Thrivent members are aware of the value of their membership, in fact, one in three Lutherans are Thrivent members. How can that number increase? In these uncertain financial times, those non-members may be asking you for financial services references. Being an ambassador for Thrivent doesn't require a lot of work. Simply direct those non-members to the Thrivent website, refer or introduce them to your financial representative, invite someone to attend a chapter activity, or sponsor an educational workshop for your congregation. Thrivent offers many excellent money management seminars with something for everyone. Let your friends know that Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a faith-based, not-for-profit membership organization with nearly 3 million members.
