Clark County WA Chapter, February 2012
Dear Clark County WA Chapter Members: Happy New Year! I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for participating in Clark County Thrivent activities during the 2011. We had a great year and look forward to 2012. I am pleased to be serving as your Clark County WA Chapter President for 2012. I wish to welcome Cindy Carney to the board. She will be the Director of Congregational Advocates for 2012. I wish to thank Wes Jenkins & Heidi Engleson who stepped down after serving the last 2 years. Chapter Update: In 2011, Clark County membership grew by 49 benefit members and 52 associate members. We received the 2nd largest funding allocation of 36 Chapters in AK, WA, & OR. We were one of only four Chapters to achieve all of our goals and attain Chapter of Excellence. Thank you!! Thrivent Financial members contributed a total $189,203 in Clark County in 2011. We had funded 36 Care Abounds in Communities Activities for church outreach and as a result, we were able to raise over $82,000 for projects in the community. We had 8 member educational or social events, and members contributed 24,838 volunteer hours in Clark County. Thank you for your passion to assist in making positive and meaningful changes in our communities. Thrivent Choice Update: Thrivent Choice had a great year! About 36% of eligible members participated in 2011, with approximately $52 million of Thrivent Choice grant funds distributed to 19,800 organizations. Clark county members directed $107,203 Thrivent Choice Dollars to 33 Clark County congregations and pre-schools in 2011. You may still direct 2011 dollars until 3/31/2012, so I STRONGLY encourage you to direct your dollars if you have not. Thrivent Choice® changes for 2012 are as follows: + An increase in overall program budget of 35% to $40 million. (Note: This amount is based on the planned 2011 allocation of approximately $30 million, rather than the actual amount spent. The program succeeded in 2011 beyond our expectations, causing us to spend more than the originally allocated amount.) + 2012 Choice Dollars designation rates will be $2.30 of Choice Dollars per $100 of premium paid on qualifying insurance products and $1.15 of Choice Dollars per $1,000 of contract value on qualifying life insurance and annuity products (calculated on a quarterly basis). + We are phasing out the recurring direction ("set it and forget it") option for directing Thrivent Choice Dollars. Members will have the opportunity to renew their recurring direction for one more year, but in 2013, members will need to select an organization each time they want to direct Choice Dollars. In late January through February, Thrivent Financial will send members with recurring direction a letter explaining the 2012 program changes and the options for renewing your recurring direction for this year. Stay tuned! Thrivent Builds: The Clark County Chapter and members were awarded a Habitat House for Humanity Thrivent Builds grant again for 2012. We look forward to beginning the build. I again encourage you to find out more about it as we again begin the process of requesting assistance from the Lutheran Congregations for donations to complete the local contribution of $10,000 for this effort. We will seek volunteer hours as well as financial contributions from the congregations. It is an excellent way to minister to the community with time and talents! We anticipate the building to start in early spring. On behalf of your board, I again thank you all for your contributions as Clark County Thrivent members in 2011 and I look forward as a board member to assisting you with your needs in 2011. Let's all “Thrive” in 2012! Respectfully, Terry L. Hoyer, President, Clark County WA Chapter of Thrivent Financial #30171

Clark County Thrivent and Habitat for Humanity
Our Chapter has learned that Thrivent will be sponsoring another home in Vancouver. We do not have particular information yet, but stay tuned for updates. Meanwhile, here is some general information about Thrivent Financial for Lutherans involvement in Habitat for Humanity. Since 2005 and 2010, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, through its partnership with Habitat for Humanity, has given more than 2,000 families in the U.S. and around the world the opportunity to build and own a decent, affordable home. In the process, strong bonds of friendship have been built … and lives changed.
Thousands of families across the country are faced with a heart-wrenching decision: to provide decent shelter for their children—or provide basic needs like food, electricity and health care. You can help give a better life to a family right here in our area.
HELP US BUILD HOMES AND STRENGTHEN FAMILIES. Contact your Thrivent Advocate in your congregation or call Dennis Smith at 350-892-1389, or email him at www.d_gsmith@msn.com to volunteer or visit www.thriventbuilds.com.
You and other members of our chapter will work side-by-side with a family to build their home. No experience is necessary. All you need is a willing heart.
Congregational Advocates Needed!!!!
