Thrivent Build and Golf Tournament
On May 19th a Golf Tournament and Dinner Auction was held to raise money for the two houses that were part of a "rapid build" in July and August.  There were 60 golfers and our chapter served fruit and coffee at the registration table and funded a power bar hole.  A little more than $60,000 was raised, which funded the costs for two homes.  In July and August many Lutheran hands helped 'raise the roof' for those two homes.
On September 20th these two houses were dedicated with a wonderful barbecue lunch sponsored by the East King County Chapter.  Two families got their keys and drove in the last nail on their homes. Quilts were given to each family member in the two homes. These quilts were  made by the quilters at Pilgrim Lutheran in Bellevue and Our Saviors Lutheran in Issaquah.  The dedication was a very special day for all involved.  Special thanks to all those who helped with all aspect of the golf tournament and the builds.  Your financial and physical support was crucial and appreciated!

Share your Photos!!
The East King County Chapter is beginning an on-line photo album.  We have some great pictures from Chapter sponsored events like the Habitat Home dedications, Join Hands Days, The Golf Tournament and Auction.  We would love YOU to add pictures of your 'Thrivent-Chapter - sponsored' projects and events.

We are getting the links together and will have the information in our next newsletter -- so, find those great pictures!!

Thank You!
The projects submitted this year continue to show us at the Chapter how active our congregations are!!  We have supported efforts for youth groups to go on Mission Trips, many projects around feeding the homeless (Tent City, Congregations for the Homeless, Food Bank collections), a lot of our congregations support Compass Center ministries in a big way, you are involved in your communites ~ your impact is great.
As you think about what your congregation will be supporting in 2009, we encourage you to think about
'fundraising' for supplemental funds from the Chapter more often than requesting 'hands-on' funding. Why?? Well, when you fundraise in your congregation and/or community you bring a lot more awareness to the project!!  Whether it's a directed offering, a 'pass the hat' at a social event, a car wash or a dinner/auction ~ fundraising gives you the opportunity to tell the story of the organization you want to assist. It also brings in more dollars to help your project...and with the supplemental funds from the Chapter, the potential to do more than you even imagined.

Congregational Coordinators, I encourage you to meet with all the groups at your church, visit a council meeting and learn about all the exciting ideas your members have.  Then, with your help, they can raise the funds and awareness of their causes and with Thrivent funding, do more than ever.

Blessings on your plans for 2009
