| Welcome New Thrivent Members! |
When you joined Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, you also became a member of our local chapter, one of more than 1,350 Thrivent chapters across the country. As part of our chapter, you have the opportunity to volunteer with other Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members in support of your congregation, other Lutheran organizations, community causes and individuals in need. Our chapter has funds available to add to fund-raiser totals and to support hands-on service activities. Recently, members of our chapter participated in the dedication of two homes built with the help of Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Builds in Snoqualmie. It was a typical Seattle day, pouring rain, but the enthusiasm was high as two more families were able to realize their dream of home ownership. Upcoming events include the Oktoberfest at First Lutheran in Bothell, Thanksgiving baskets for the needy, meals for Tent City, and the annual Mercer Island Mostly Live Nativity. If you would like to know more about how you can get involved in an upcoming chapter activity or form a service team with other Thrivent members to help your congregation or community, contact one of our chapter leaders: • President Kathy Fisher (member of Holy Trinity, Mercer Island) at eastkingcochapter@yahoo.com (206) 232-3270 • Vice President Dan Selmann (member of Holy Spirit, Kirkland) at eastkingcochapter@yahoo.com • Financial Director Rich Erwin (member of Holy Trinity, Mercer Island) at eastkingcochapter@yahoo.com (425) 617-0989 • Records Director Shirley Carr (member First, Bothell) at eastkingcochapter@yahoo.com (425) 486-2314 • Congregational Service Team Director Richard Urie (Redeemer, Mercer Island) at eastkingcochapter@yahoo.com (425) 391-8737 The chapter leadership board helps to provide strategic direction, leadership planning, and administration to support congregational and community service teams of members who volunteer together. The elected leaders also allocate chapter funding to support fundraising and hands-on service activities conducted by chapter members. In addition, each Lutheran congregation has several congregation coordinators who provide leadership and encourage participation in activities that benefit their congregation. Our chapter members also have the opportunity to participate in educational and financial seminars to learn more about topics such as How to Thrive in Retirement and Creating a Life Plan Based on Your Values. Your Thrivent financial representative can tell you more about these seminars and when they will be held in our area. You can learn more about the benefits of belonging to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and our Thrivent chapter by visiting www.thrivent.com. Be sure you also visit our chapter’s Web site at www.lutheransonline.com/eastkingcountychapter. We are excited to have you as a member of the East King County chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and we look forward to seeing you at our next chapter activity! Watch your mail for our chapter newsletter and postcards announcing upcoming events.

For details about the following volunteer opportunities with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, call (chapter leader). CONGREGATIONAL COORDINATOR position. Through the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Care in Congregations® program, your church--one of 28 in the East King County of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans--has $40,000 available for Thrivent Financial members to conduct activities to benefit your church and/or its ministry to the community. Three congregational coordinators are required to help administer the program and initiate funding requests for the activities. If you are interested in serving as a congregational coordinator in your church, contact Roger Stinke, of First Lutheran Bothell at 425-486-2314. CHAPTER LEADER position. REQUIREMENTS for volunteer positions: A Thrivent Financial member, a desire to help others, and five to 12 hours per month of volunteer time. BENEFITS: A smile on the faces of others you've helped and a good feeling in knowing you've made a difference in someone's life.
