Join Hands Day

On June 2, 2007, more than fifty Lutherans from around the Coastal Bend participated in a Beach Clean-up at the National Seashore. From 9 am to Noon, hundred and four sacks of garbage were collected. Items collected ranged from the normal to the curiosity to the unmentionable.

Thrivent members participating ranged in age from 3 to 80+ years of age. And despite a few rain drops, the clean-up went on and a good time was enjoyed by all.

While the beach was being cleaned of all the litter, Raymond Brundrett and his crew were preparing a delicious lunch. When the rain soaked Lutherans returned from the beach, Lunch was served.

JOIN HANDS DAY is a national volunteer day sponsored by America’s fraternal benefit societies. This special day generates awareness about the powerful impact grassroots volunteerism has on communities across the nation while bringing youth and adults together to build lasting friendships across generations.

Care in Congregations

Did you know that Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has a program called Care in Congregations® where funding is provided to Thrivent Financial members to conduct fund-raising and/or hands-on service activities to benefit your congregation or its related Lutheran institutions? In fact, Thrivent Financial members are encouraged to use the funds to help the congregation in its ministry to the community.

If you see a need in your congregation that could be helped through this funding, please contact a Thrivent Financial congregational coordinator in your congregation. If you don't know who your three congregational coordinators are, please contact a member of our chapter leadership board as noted in this newsletter, and he/she will help you get in touch with a coordinator.

Thrivent Builds Giving offers members of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans® the opportunity to increase the impact of their donations to Habitat for Humanity® International or to a local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Thrivent Financial contributes $1 for every $2 members donate to Habitat for Humanity, up to a maximum supplement of $300 per member annually. Plus, when members volunteer 25 or more hours to Habitat for Humanity, Thrivent Financial contributes another $25 per year to their donation.
