Our thanks to Joy Hartley for her service as Records Director for 2008, and to Pastor Michael Gabby for serving as Communications Director for most of the year. The chapter leadership board also thanks all of the attendees to our annual meeting at the Back Street Cafe in November for you support. We look forward to this annual event, and encourage all Thrivent Financial for Lutheran members to plan for next year's annual meeting. It is usually held on the second Saturday in November, so be watching for the official registration newletter that you will receive around the end of September or early October 2009. For those that missed this year's meeting, the catfish and chicken fried steak was yummy.
| Helping Your Congregation in 2009 |
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has a wonderful program for your congregation each year. If you are not aware of this program, it's called Care in Congregations®, where funding is provided to Thrivent Financial members to conduct fund-raising and/or hands-on service activities to benefit your congregation or its related Lutheran institutions. In fact, Thrivent Financial members are encouraged to use the funds to help the congregation in its ministry to the community.
If you see a need in your congregation that could be helped through this funding, please contact a Thrivent Financial congregational coordinator in your congregation. If you don't know who your three congregational coordinators are, please contact a member of our chapter leadership board as noted in this newsletter, and he/she will help you get in touch with a coordinator.

| GET READY FOR 2009 CARE ABOUND IN COMMUNITIES® ACTIVITIES |
To be a part of this great Thrivent Financial for Lutherans program, you should begin your planning as soon as possible. It will probably be after the middle of January when the funding for 2009 will become available to your chapter. Fill out the request forms and have them ready for the first chapter board meeting in February for consideration. Contact the Community Service Team Director, Sharon Schrader, or any member of the Gulf Coast Chapter board for the 'Request for Funding' form. Remember, the request for funding must be made before the activity begins. The Chapter Board will be expecting the activity to raise $3.00 for every $1.00 made available up to a maximum of $1,600.00 for organizations, and up to $5,000.00 for a needy individual. Many of the Community Service Teams that were in place in 2008 will probably step up to the plate again in 2009 with their request.
It’s first come, first served, so don’t delay. The Gulf Coast Chapter may receive as much as $20,000.00 or more to fund the activities for next year. When that amount is gone, there is no more for the rest of the year. That’s why it is so important to get your requests in early. Submit your request on a Request for Funding form and submit it to any member of the chapter board. See the list of chapter leaders beginning on the first page of this newsletter.
Does your congregation have an activity or project that you would like to tell everyone about? If possible, we'll help you spread the word. This newsletter is published at least four times annually. We like to hear about your activities, and how you were able to assist an organization or your congregation with one of Thrivent's funding programs.
