THANKS!!! Congregations in Galveston County

Six of twelve congregations collected and contributed money for the  Florida Hurricane Victims. The amount of $4,771 was raised for this effort.

In addition the Galveston County Chapter Board voted to spend $250 of the chapter’s operating funds to this effort.  The money is supplemented in a special fund the Thrivent Financial Home Office. Many thanks to wonderfully generous hearts.

GALVESTON COUNTY CHAPTER CARE ABOUNDS IN COMMUNITIES™ FUNDS WELL DISTRIBUTED

Galveston County Chapter was allocated $18,470 for Care Abounds in Communites™ funds for 2004.  All  of these funds were allocated from requests received from different groups within the twelve congregations in Galveston County. The recipients in the community who received the funds varied widely. There were a number of individuals who received assistance; several with medical needs and others with educational support needs. Two different efforts to support Habitat for Humanity were completed through work projects and special collections.

The following non-profit agency were supported: Texas City Day Nursery, Braille Center in Texas City.  Concordia Scholarship Fund, Galveston Family Service Center, Interfaith Ministries, Boys and Girls Harbor, Points of Light Clinic, Christian Helping Hands, Hope Village, Seafarers Christmas boxes, and a Teen to Teen Project. Requests will be considered by the chapter board again in 2005 after the amount of the allocation is determined. Requests must be presented to the Galveston County Chapter Board for consideration. Members are encouraged to form teams of at least six Thrivent Financial members to do work projects or fund raising projects to obtain the funds from the Care Abounds in Communities Program. Forms are available to complete a request.

Chapter Board Packs Christmas Boxes for Service Personnel

At the November meeting the Chapter Board and Congregational Coordinators present packed twenty one boxes for service men with the items collected from churches in the chapter. The Chapter Board had voted previously to use chapter operating funds to pay the postage to send these boxes to those service men working in Iraq or Iran.

Names and addresses were solicited from churches and prior approval was received for each that would receive a package. Items were identified that are often requested by service personnel. Thanks to all contributed to this effort.
