Galveston County Chapter, Galveston County Gazette - Summer 2008
Greetings Thrivent Galveston County Chapter Members
The Thrivent Galveston County Chapter has money to spend!  Have I got your attention yet?   We need your help in spending this money.  At the beginning of the year, we, the Galveston Chapter, received $16,750.00.  This money is to be used in our communities to help fill the needs of our neighbors.  We achieve this by hosting projects, and Thrivent provides matching funds or pre-funding for these activities.  This money provided by Thrivent must be used in the community and not for the church.  Currently we have events such as the repairing of the Hitchcock Heritage Museum, partially assisting a local Pastor on his Educational trip to Asia, helping a family after their house was destroyed by fire, sponsoring a “Seniors Shopping Spree” and provide them with a new TV, helping a local day care center, helping and assisting monetarily to the Point of Light, Light House Charity Christian Helping Hands, and more that I have not listed.  After all we have already done, we still have funds available for you to support your community.

This money is to be used for local community non-profit groups or individuals in need and is provided through Thrivent's “Care Abounds in Communities Program”.  There is also money that is allocated to your individual churches and this is through the “Care in Congregations Program”.  One stipulation for the “Care in  Congregation" funds is that each church is to have three (3) coordinators.  Currently, we have one church in our chapter that does not meet this requirement.  Pastors, please make sure you have three coordinators.  I know you would HATE to lose that money.

If you have an idea for a project, please let one of your coordinators know or contact me directly, we would like to be able to assist you with your work project or fund-raiser.

Your church should have by now received plates, napkins and cups from your Galveston Chapter.  We had excess operating funds from the past few years and the board voted to supply the congregations with these items.  We want you to use them as you wish.

Wanted!! We will be having an election this fall for new board members.  If you can answer the call to serve on this board, we are looking for you.  Please contact myself (Sheryl Holland) or our Vice President Ruby Reviere.  We have positions to fill.  Contact information is at the end of the newsletter.

This message is from Sheryl Holland, president, Galveston County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Her contact information is at the end of the newsletter.

Appreciation for Congregational Coordinators
Congregational Coordinators provide the leadership for the twelve different churches in the Galveston County Chapter.  Each church has three coordinators which guide the activities to obtain the Care in Congregation Funds.  Often they spearhead or provide support for  Care Abounds in Communities projects for which funds are requested from the chapter.  To thank these special efforts of Congregational Coordinators a special event has been planned for Sunday, August 17, 2008 at 1:00 P. M. at Peppers Restaurant in the Banquet Room at League City.  This is located in the Kroger shopping center at the corner of 518 and I 45.  Personal Invitations will be sent later.
