| First Lutheran Church Activities Assist With Hurricane Ike Repair |
First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Galveston held two fund raisers to help with money to repair the Church, Fellowship Hall, and Office. On Friday, October 24th a "German Hoe-Down" was held in the street in front of our Church buildings complete with an authentic German Alpine band and, of course, beer and sausage on the stick. This event raised $17,051.00 to be supplemented $1 for every $2 we raised by the Thrivent Regional Ike Response Fund. Also, on Saturday, October 25th we held our traditional Oktoberfest, only this year it was called the "Ike's Over-Fest." Owing to Ike's devastation, this event was a very scaled-down version of the usual celebration. But, nonetheless, an amount of $61,500.00 was raised which will was supplemented $1 for every $2 raised by the Thrivent Regional Ike Response Fund. These additional funds from Thrivent go a long way toward restoring badly damaged buildings. Thrivent and it's programs are very much appreciated.
First Lutheran also held several clean-up days after Hurricane Ike hit the island, and we will receive our Congregational $1,300.00 in connection with those activities.
