| Nominees Needed for All Director Positions |
All positions are open for nominations for The Galveston County Chapter Board for 2010. There are ten positions on the Board of Directors which are as follows: president, vice president, financial director, records director, congregational service team director, community service team director, assistant financial director, events director, youth director and communications director. The first five positions listed are required and must be filled. The additional five are strongly recommended.
If you know anyone who would be interested in serving in a voluntary service capacity, please nominate them. If you are interested in any position, please nominate yourself. The Election Meeting will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009. This year eight of the positions are filled. The goal is have all positions filled for 2010!! Do help us with your nominations.
| Thrivent Builds Begins in September in Dickinson |
Schedules are completed for the construction of two new homes in Dickinson. Starting on the second Saturday in September, each Saturday you will find a church group working on the construction of the two new Habitat homes. If you are interested and are not contacted to assist with the construction, please contact your congregation coordinator. Any member of the Galveston County Chapter Board may also be contacted. Names are listed at the end of the this newsletter. Be part of the action in building of these homes.
| Family Activity Early in July |
Thrivent members have received an invitation to the Ice Cream Social/ Identity Theft Program scheduled for July 12, 2009 from 2:00 – 4:00 P. M. Captain Wayne Kessler of the Santa Fe Police Department will share the latest on Identity Theft. Thrivent members, their family and guests (limit of two) are invited for an afternoon of fun and education at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Santa Fe Texas, 13136 Highway 6. We worked hard, but also worshipped, danced, shared food and fellowship with each other.”

Experience another culture in your own country, helping Native Americans on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation renovate their reservation homes. And, to add to your cultural awareness, you will be invited to a traditional meal, a remote buffalo ranch on the reservation, and a native spiritual ceremony in a sweat lodge.

| Local Ball Game Activity Well Attended |
The Galveston County Chapter sponsored a local activity for members and guests to attend the baseball game of the Bay Area Toros vs the Alexandria Aces. Tickets for 139 members and guests were requested. Families enjoyed the outing on Friday, May 29 at the Robinson Stadium in Texas City. The League City Cup Scout Pack 6784 with Den Leader, Bradley Cunningham and Eagle Scout Bill Grieneeks sang the National Anthem with Thrivent members joining them in singing. Watch your mail boxes for invitations for more family activities in the future.
| Join Hands Day Pantry Projects Great Success |
Four different pantries were supported through the Join Hands Projects in May. Memorial Lutheran Church and Peace Lutheran Church in Texas City assisted the Salvation Army Food Bank and Christus Victor in League City assisted the Interfaith Caring Ministry Pantry in one project. Hope Lutheran Church in Friendswood supported the Christian Helping Hands in Pearland and Faith Lutheran in Dickinson provided assistance for the M. I. Lewis Social Service Center. Grocery items nearing $1000 in value were donated and stocked for the pantries. Additionally, Thrivent provided $500 worth of groceries.
| Appreciation Luncheon Given for Braille Workers |
The Galveston County Chapter provided an Appreciation Luncheon for Braille Workers who have spent numerous hours printing books for the blind. The event was held on Saturday, May 16 at 11:00 A. M. at Peace Lutheran in Texas City. Delores Bahr coordinated the activity for the board.
