ELECTION IN NOVEMBER – YOUR HELP NEEDED
All members are urged to attend the Galveston County Chapter Election Meeting on Sunday afternoon, November 8 at 2:30 P. M. at Memorial Lutheran located at 2021 - 29th St. N in Texas City.  There will an educational speaker and a light meal will also be served.  Separate invitations are also being mailed.  Please come to vote and submit your nominations if you do not submit them to Ruby Reviere in advance.  


Ruby Reviere has a special message as Vice President and Chapter Elections Chairman.  “We are asking all Thrivent members to please nominate anyone you think would be willing to serve.  It is always flattering to be asked to serve in any way so please go through your list of fellow Thrivent members at your church and tell them they are needed to serve the Lord in this way.”  She continues, “  Of course, volunteers are always welcome as well, so please let me know.   I am waiting for some good people to add to our list.   My email is:   rubyreviere@earthlink.net and my phone number is:   281-482-2464.”


Ruby also states, “ It has been a pleasure to serve as Vice President for the past 3 years, but I think this is a good opportunity for someone else to serve in this position  ---   a very learning experience for me. Annual Octoberfest in Texas City
Texas City's ninth annual Octoberfest By The Bay will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on October 10th at Memorial Lutheran Church, 2021 - 29th St. N. in Texas City.  Live music will be provided by "Alpenfest."   There will be German food, beer, soft drinks, crafts, games, vendors, raffles, silent auction and more.  Free admission and free parking!




Educational Event Successful
Nearly 40 Thrivent members and guests attended a special informational wine and cheese tasting educational event on September 19 at Stone Manor in Galveston.  Stephen Stone provided the opportunity to learn to judge wine with his expertise of many years. Refreshments were also served.  Look forward to other opportunities to educational event provided by your chapter.


Hopefest Brings Fun and Hope to The Community

Hope Lutheran Church will be celebrating their Fall Festival “Hopefest” on October 3rd and 4th.  This annual event provides an opportunity for the congregation to join together and for the community to visit the campus.  Some of the profits from this event are donated to local charities.  Supplemental funds for the charities are provided by Thrivent.
The charities Hope will be supporting this year are Christian Helping Hands, Point of Light, Family Outreach, the Bridge Over Troubled Waters and Center for Pregnancy.


*Saturday and Sunday – October 3&4
The Craft Show will take place 9:00-5:00 in the Center for Faith Development. Twenty one crafters will have booths.  The craft show reopens Sunday 9:00-3:00.
A Bake Sale will also take place 9:00-5:00 in the Center for Faith Development.  It also reopens Sunday 9:00-3:00.


*Saturday – October 3rd
A Tea Room will provide lunch from 11:00-2:00 on Saturday.  This takes place adjacent to the craft fair on the second floor of the Center for Faith Development. These ladies serve a mighty find sandwich.  


*Sunday – October 4th
Traditional worship will be at 8:00 and casual worship at 10:00.  Come and plan to stay.  
Free Children’s games follow the worship service 11:00-2:00.  Lots of fun activities for the youth
Bingo is offered from 12:30-2:30 in the Center for Faith Development.
A silent auction will be held in the Grand Hallway in the Center for Faith Development from 11:00-3:00.  Many great items have been donated by local merchants and congregation members.  Christmas shopping anyone?
Gloria’s famous BBQ is served in the parking lot from 11:00-2:00.  Come and enjoy BBQ sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs and BBQ stuffed potatoes.  Tickets are available ahead of time or on Sunday.


Walgreen’s will administer flu shots from 9:00-2:00.  The price is $25.00.
MD Anderson’s Blood Mobile will be on campus from 9:30-1:00.  Come and donate.  Your donation can impact up to 3 lives.
Smoothies are being served next to the bake sale from 11:00-2:00.


*Saturday - October 17th
Hopefest culminates on October 17th with a “Family Fiesta Meal” and a Live Auction.  This takes place in the Center for Faith Development beginning at 5:00.  Tickets for the meal need to be purchased ahead of time.  Come join the fun and bid on great items.

Thrivent Builds On Target in Dickinson

Construction is progressing on the two Thrivent Builds Homes in Dickinson.  Each weeks sees more progress toward the completion date in the later part of December when the homes will be dedicated.  Watch for the announcement of the dedication.  Excitement is building!




Thrivent Assists Hitchcock Heritage Foundation

The Hitchcock Heritage Society Mother’s Day Bake Sale was a big success.  The amount raised as $1,030.  This was supplemented by Thrivent through Care Abounds in Communities funds.  Profit from the bake sale and the supplemental funding from Thrivent enabled the Heritage Foundation to have security system installed in the Heritage Cottage Museum.  The Heritage Society thanks Thrivent and the Galveston County Chapter for the support.





Chapter Board Approves applying for Thrivent Builds for 2010

At the September meeting the Chapter Board approved the application for building one house in the year 2010 for Thrivent Builds.  If the application is approved, assistance will be solicited again from participating chapter congregations.  Watch for further details.  We ask for the Lord’s guidance and blessing.


Congregation Appreciation Dinner To Be Held

Congregation Coordinators and Pastors will be recognized and honored at a special appreciation dinner on Saturday, October 10 at 6:30 P. M. at Kelly’s in LaMarque.  Delores Bahr, Care in Congregations Director, is coordinating the event with the assistance of Dorothy Garrick, Chapter Events Director.  Special invitations are being sent.  All activities are only possible through the support and efforts of all these willing hands.
