| Fort Bend-Wharton County Chapter Chatter 1st Quarter 2005 |
Already in 2005, many of our congregations have begun using their Care in Congregation funds to assist in delivering events that support ministry and fellowship. Fourteen events have been concluded with excellent attendance at each event. The Chapter approved 6 Care Abounds in Communities events so far this year. We encourage each congregation to submit a Care Abounds in Communities activity before July 1..After July 1 projects will be approved as criteria is met. Some congregations may have more than one project approved. Each congregation has a chapter board member assigned to assure each congregation can easily recommend a Care Abounds in Communities activity. See chapter leaders and advisors in this newsletter. In 2004 our Chapter projects generated $175,000 in fraternal benefits through our members who contributed over 11,000 volunteer hours in addition to the dollars !! Thank You !!!
| Join Hands Day - May 7,2005 |
Do you want to improve our community, engage young people in volunteerism and have some fun? The sixth annual Join Hands Day was on Saturday, May 7, 2005. This national day of volunteering sparks friendships among people of all generations as youth and adults come together to plan and conduct activities to improve their communities. Join Hands Day is sponsored by America’s Fraternal Benefit Societies, in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network. Events can be planned and completed by June 30 to qualify as Join Hands Day events
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a major supporter of this special day. Last year, members had a ball conducting more than 3,000 activities across the country, everything from cleaning up city parks to helping seniors. The ideas were limited only by the imagination.
Eight of the 20 activities chosen in 2004 by the Join Hands Day Foundation for Awards of Excellence were conducted by Thrivent Financial members. The planning groups received $1,000 each to be used for this year’s Join Hands Day activities and a distinctive glass award.
