2005 - Good Works to complete
As this newsletter is being written we have a number of major events that have requested support from our Care Abounds in Communities® funds. Several congregations have events to plan and use their Care in Congregations® funding. Take the opportunity to invite someone from your community to attend and support the good works that we assist.  As the Fall season carries us through many of our heritage festivals let us enjoy the times of fellowship and service. Take time to get to El Campo on September 18
and enjoy a fun day at the Fireman's center, Come to Katy and experience the Global Mission Festival
at Living Word (3700 South Mason) on October 16. The New Hope Bazaar in Missouri City (1424 FM1092) will again be a great activity on November 19.
Worship in one of our 20 congregations every Sunday !!

Benefits of Membership/Giving Plus
Are you aware that as a member of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, financial gifts you make to a Lutheran organization might be able to be supplemented by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans?

Through Thrivent Financial's GivingPlus program, members can donate financial gifts to two different Lutheran organizations enrolled in the program each year, and Thrivent Financial will contribute $1 for every $2, up to $300 per year for each organization. For example, if you donate gifts of $600 or more to two eligible Lutheran organizations each, Thrivent Financial will contribute an additional $600 ($300 for each organization). In addition, Thrivent Financial will contribute an additional $25 for members who volunteer 25 hours or more at the organization receiving their gift.

All you need to do is complete a GivingPlus Member Gift form (available online or from the Lutheran organization) and submit it with your donation to the Lutheran organization. It's a very simple process.

For complete details and guidelines about this one-of-a-kind member benefit program and for copies of the Member Gift form, go to www.thrivent.com/fraternal/churchcommunity/givingplus.html. If you used the program in the past, please review the site for excellent enhancements made to the 2005 program, which allow even more members to make an even greater impact to the organizations they support through their gifts.

Thrivent Builds - HERE IT COMES- September 8
Thrivent Builds will "rollout" beginning September 8!! The major commitment in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Inc will add to the benefits of membership in a substantial way. There will be three areas of emphasis initially - Domemstic Builds , Global Builds and a giving component.
This program is an addition to current benefits of membership and will expand partnerships with Habitat affliates that are already in place here and around the country and globe.

An exciting new LARGE commitment in dollars and the volunteer efforts that will follow to provide affordable housing.

Our Schools and Social Ministries
Look for Fall Events at our Lutheran Schools in the Chapter and support them - including a GIVINGPLUS
member matching gift . Two of Schools Faith - Sugarland and Fishers of Men -Sugarland are trying to expand their excellent programs with additional facilities. The Learning Center at Living Word - Katy  is growing and expanding their offering , First and Faith El Campo are serving and sharing every day in their community.
Lutheran Social Services has added  the OAKS at Rio Bend - Richmond -innovative foster care program to their operations.
Krause Residential Children's Center in Katy. through Trinity Charter Schools was rated acceptable in delivering education to the troubled children in residence.

Each of our congregations support a local human needs ministry in our area. I understand that the ministries have been fully challenged to support families that have reached difficult times as costs have increased for utilities and fuel.  HELP when you can!!

Families Feeding Families Thanksgiving 2005
On Thanksgiving day November 24 our Chapter is joining West Houston , North Central Houston and Southwest Houston in provided a hot meal in approximately four locations across the westside of Houston.
The intention is to provide a hot meal to those that need one but also provide a place of fellowship for anyone that would like to join our community in thanks for our blessings.
