Fort Bend-Wharton County Chapter, Coordinator News Letter
Chapter Update
Our chapter had an excellent year in 2005 accomplishing our chapter goals and receiving the Chapter of Excellence Award. We did well in 2005 and have even greater expectations for 2006. We need your help as Congregational Coordinators to achieve our goals and realize our expectations in 2006. The chapter leadership has authorized a $100 per congregation fellowship grant to help promote teamwork in the congregations. Thrivent Financial has a number of resources available to each congregation on line to increase visibility of Thrivent Financial and our chapters and support congregational functions.

Upcoming Chapter Events
These are the events we have scheduled thus far this year. Please publicize them and support them.

Care Abounds in Communities®:
On 2/26/06, St. Paul Rosenberg will hold a chicken BBQ to support the medical needs of little Zachery, a member of their congregation. Information on the event can be had from Doris Dehase at 281-633-6177.

Trinity Lutheran, Rosenberg, will sponsor a take out BBQ plate dinner on 3/12/06 between 11:30am and 1:00 pm in support of a fund drive to benefit little Rachel Behrens, who has had heart problems since birth. We are hoping to raise $6000. Contact Ray Lehrman at 281-342-3660 to obtain tickets prior to the event.

Care in Congregations®:
Seven fundraising events will have been held in congregations already this year during January and February to raise funds for good causes and to lay claim to congregational allocation of funds. Please make it a goal to spend all of your allocation and multiply it as much as possible.

Chapter of Excellence Award
Through our chapter president’s leadership we have successfully earned the “Chapter of Excellence Award” from Thrivent Financial for our work in 2005. Thrivent Financial values several activities and accomplishments relative to chapter management with the most important being the following: First, we held two coordinator training sessions and one chapter wide social event, the Christmas party at Danevang. All of our $1000 of Join Hands Day funds were spent and 98% of congregational allocations were spent. Our chapter website is up and running and we used four chapter member mailings and one coordinator mailing. Ray Lehrman, our publicist, was very active in getting our events in the local newspaper. We totaled over 22,000 volunteer hours and raised $63,000 in Care Abounds in Communities® funds. Three grants were received this year for a total of $9500. Thrivent Financial was a lead sponsor in Tomorrows Child Golf Tourney $100,000 was received benefiting the Krause Center in Katy. Finally, two schools in the chapter received over $15,000 through the Giving Plus® program. It was a very good year!!

Plans for 2006
Our president, Ben Powell, is finalizing our goals for 2006. Those goals will involve several key areas of activity. First, our chapter will be supporting Thrivent Builds/Habitat for Humanity in a big way in 2006. Five Habitat homes are planned for Houston. Grants will be pursued to tap into regional funds beyond our chapter allocations. We also want to have greater multiplication of Care in Congregations® and Care Abounds in Communities® funds in 2006, so we have set a goal of $2 raised for each $1 provided.

Congregation Fellowship Grants
The chapter will be providing $100 to each congregational coordinator team to plan and carry out a social event that promotes the good works in the community and the use of benefits available through the Thrivent chapter system. Chapter leaders assigned to each congregation will deliver these grants to each congregation along with some advice on how to use the money most effectively. The true strength of our chapter system lies in the coordinators in each of the congregations and we appreciate your service.

Resources Online From Thrivent Financial
Confirmation time is coming up in our congregations this spring. Thrivent Financial has baptismal medallions and confirmation crosses available on line. Coordinators can log onto www.thrivent.com and go through a simple two-step process to order them.
Visibility kits are also available online along with a whole catalogue of free stuff. At our last meeting Ann Schaer displayed the contents of several boxes of items available to congregations through Thrivent Financial. All the items filled two large tables. The variety and quality of the items were amazing. Please log on and get your materials. It’s all there waiting for you.
