Fort Bend-Wharton County Chapter, Coordinator Newsletter
Congregational Fellowship Grant
Each church in the chapter has been granted $100 for the coordinators to develop a fellowship event to get out the message of fraternal benefits to congregations, community groups and people in need in our area. In the past we have sponsored congregational coordinator training events to get the Thrivent message out but this year we want to cultivate a greater sense of teamwork within the congregations. Thrivent has a huge inventory of aids to the community through very diverse programs. We want to make the greatest beneficial impact as possible and we need your help. Please call or email Jerry Lohr, to let him know what you have done to create a fellowship event and what the impact of the event has been. We want to get the Thrivent word out and it is important to find the best vehicle for doing that. Jerry can be reached at 979-387-2329 or txlohr@consolidated.net.
This will be an important year for the election of chapter officers. Term limits for many of our current officers will preclude them from serving in an elected position in 2007. A nominations committee headed by Vice President Ann Schaerer is charged with developing a slate of officers for 2007. One of the best sources for recruitment is from congregational coordinators. That's you. Each of you has seen the benefits of the Thrivent fraternal program and all of you have unique gifts to bring to our chapter leadership. If you would like to know more about the vacancies to be filled you can speak to the incumbants or go on line to the Thrivent website to review job functions.
Care in Congregation Projects
I want to encourage all of our cordinators to ensure that your entire congregational allocation is spent this year and with as much impact as possible. Our goal this year is to spend all the allocated funds and multiply the impact of the supplemental funds to the greatest degree possible.
Care Abounds In Community® Funds
We have approximately $5000 in Care Abounds in Community funds that have not been allocated. If you have some great causes and opportunities to spend these funds please let anyone in chapter leadership know. You are our primary eyes and ears in the comminity and in your church families.
We are scheduled to participate in a Thrivent Builds activity through the construction of Habitat For Humanity homes September 21st through October 5th. The homes to be built will be located in North Houston. THe chapter needs to Raise $6000 in funds from our chapter and our congregations in either cash or gifts in kind and needs Thrivent members to participate in the builds. We would like to have a champion for the project in each congregation and we would like you to consider being that person. You would be involved in promoting the project through gathering funds and recruiting volunteer builders. I participated in a build in Wharton and found it to be a very positive experience. You do not need to be a master builder to contribute. Habitat can us a wide variety of skills and skill levels.
