Leadership Changes
Don Fought, previously the chapter vice president, is replacing Bob Jahns as president. Bob's greatly increased work load has made it nescessary for him to resign. Sue Lohr succeeds Don as vice president. Sue's husband and past president Jerry will help both of them transition in their new functions. We have positions open on the chapter board and we would like you to consider standing for election in 2008.  Keep in mind, however, all positions are open for nomination each year, regardless of the term served by a current leader.

Habitat for Humanity/Thrivent Builds Project
Today, June second marks the sixth week of our eight week build out. Becky Ohm has done a great job recuiting workers and organizing the crews each Saturday. She faithfully mans the sign-in/snack/lunch table providing support and encouragement to the crews. We have had big teams sent from St. Martins, Trinity, New Covenant and Faith Lutheran Churches.  The house is now roofed and sided at this point so what remains to be done is interior work, painting and landscaping. Trinity Lutheran youth and Scouts will pitch in Saturday the 16th to complete landscaping as part of a Join Hands Day Project. Our chapter will contribute $750 to the purchase of landscape supplies and supply lunch. We cand use plenty of help so please come out to the project site near the Fiesta Market in Rosenberg for these last weeks of work. We also need more funds to support our $7200 committment to the project. A best guess is that we need $3500 beyond the actual and pledged funds.

Lutherans at the Ball Park
Join us for a great day of baseball with the Astros and make a difference in the lives of some very special children.
Thrivent Financial is joining with LSSS(Lutheran Social Services of the South) in supporting Lutheran Day a Minute Maid Park. The Astros are offering discounted tickets for Lutheran day and you can save as much as 50% off per ticket. And a portion of each ticket sold will supplement the funds raised for this event as a Care in Regions project for the Texas Region.

Game Day is:  Saturday, July 28,2007 at 2:55pm. The Astros will be hosting the San Diego Padres.

Last year over 1000 tickets were sold and $2000 was raised for the children at Krause Children's Treatment Center and Foster Care/Adoption Services.
Order your seats directly from the Astros, or check with your church to see if a group is ordering. For complete ticket information, go to the Astros special Lutheran Day Website:Log on to www.astros.com/lutheran. When you order the password is Lutheran. See you there.

Care Abounds In Communities Activities
To date, we have allocated 65% of our available chapter supplemental funds. We have funded 14 activities that raised a total of $53,430 as of today. That total does not include an additional $53,000 raised through Thrivent efforts in support of the widow and family of Justin Hurst, a Parks and Wildlife officer from Wharton County killed in the line of duty. Donna Janik, our financial director, has been a point person for this activity. She reported that $170,000 was raised to date from all sources with over 1000 people involved in a benefit dinner recently held in El Campo. I am so impressed at how the community has come together for the Hursts.

LSSS Tomorrow's Child Golf Tournament.
This Care Abounds In Communities project is targeted to raise $110,000 from the tournament scheduled for Monday June 18th. Proceeds will go the the Krause center in Katy. Log on to www.lsss.org for more details or call Neil Ladwig at 282-242-6610..

A Second Join Hands Day Project.
We have $250 available to support a hands on project. The project needs to be completed by June 30th and enable largely by youth. Please let anyone of the chapter leaders know if you have an idea that can be developed.

Chapter of Excellence
Dave Kuhlman will be on hand for out July 25th chapter meeting at The Lodge On Lake Lohr to give the chapter its award of excellence for work done and goals reached in 2006. This award is largely the result of the leadership of Ben Powell who suddenly passed away late last year. I think all of us on the chapter board miss him greatly and are trying to pick up the mantle that fell from his shoulders.
