Thrivent Builds/ Habitat for Humanity Project in Rosenberg-Schedule
Our chapter sponsored Thrivent Builds project at 732 Habitat Lane in Rosenberg will begin on September 6th. The following build schedule will give you an idea of what we will be doing each day and how many volunteers will be needed. You may have special skills that relate to a particular day's activity but willing hands are welcome on any day. We hope to have a chapter Lutheran Church sponsor for each of the build days. Churches will recruit volunteers and provide food services. There will be opportunities for hospitality and support service for those who are not inclined to swing a hammer. Thrivent Builds Champions in each of the congregations will assist you in signing up for a build day. If for some reason, you cannot sign up ahead of time just show up at the site anyway. New Home Owner Family for Thrivent Builds Project
While you are on site at our Thrivent Builds/Habitat build, you will be working side by side with the Escobar family, the new owners. Each Habitat family has a big investment of sweat equity in their home in addition to the mortgage they will carry. Home owner Julie Escobar and her four children Hadryan Escobar 16, Erica Escobar 13, Isai Escobar 11, and Mia Munoz are currently living in their parents garage and will be elated to move into a new four bedroon home. Mother Julie is currently employed at a local company. Please greet and get to know them as you work at the site.

Build Day Church Sponsors
We are asking chapter churches to sponsor one day during the buildout. September 6 and 13 are already taken by Peace Lutheran and Faith Lutheran respectively. Five other chapter churches have expressed an interest in sponsoring a day so sign up with Jerry Lohr at 979-387-2329 who is our Thrivent Builds Chapter Specialist. Sponsoring churches will provide the following help for the project with support from Jerry and Fort Bend Habitat.

- Provide a noon meal for the work crew.
- Recruit volunteers sufficient for the tasks of the day. If your church cannot provide all the necessary  help, Fort Bend Habitat will supplement with regular workers who help out.
- Help sign in volunteers and check them out as they leave.
- Dispense water, snacks and sports drinks during the day.

A comfortable environment will be provided for sign in and food service. An 12' x 12' awning, tables and folding chairs will be set up. Coolers and ice will be provided for the drinks.

Chapter churches: support for the Habitat Build
Chapter churches have been very busy raising funds for the 2008 chapter build. Enthusiasm has been building from our very positive experience with the 2007 project. These churches have supported us with the following projects:
-  Peace Lutheran raised $1001 from a "Noisy offering" and plans to also sponsor a drive through plate dinner fundraiser in September or October.
- New Covenent Church had a hamburger dinner fundraiser which netted $847.
- Peace lutheran had a BBQ drive through dinner which earned $827.
- A Join Hands Day project contributed $300 worth of landscaping for the project.
- Fishers of Men Lutheran contributed $1000 fron their missions fund.

We had a carry over of $2300 from the 2007 project so we are well on our way to getting the $7500 needed for our chapter"s contribution to the build.

Join Hands Day Projects
We have additional work to do on a Join Hands Day Project at The Krause Center in Katy. Our chapter has been supporting the Ben Powell Memorial visitor and family waiting area at the entrance to the center. We have provided $700 for the purchase of plants and fixtures. Final installation of the landscaping will occur when some problems with the sprinkler sysyem are resolved. We will need some eager hands to help us. Dates and times will be posted on the chapter website when we have them.

Our second project involves the purchase of $300 of landscaping materials to be installed on the October 25th, the last day of the Thrivent Builds project on Habitat Lane in Rosenberg. We will be recruiting volunteers through the churches sponsoring the build days.

Care Abounds In Communities Activities
The chapter has supported 13 Care Abounds In Communities projects in Fort Bend and Wharton Counties so far this year. Approximately $13000 in supplemental funds have been allocated toward these projects. We have about $10000 remaing of our chapter allocation to use in support of worthy projects that you may hear about. Please contact any of our chapter leaders who are listed on our website if you know of an opportunity to help.

Care in Congregations
To date, eight chapter congregations have expended all of their congregational funds. Congratulations and thanks. Four congregations have spent a portion of their allocation. The remaining nine congregations may have project plans in the works but have not expended any funds as of our July chapter meeting. The funds are a terrible thing to waste. Our chapter goal is to use all of the congregational funds by year end. If you cannot come up with a fundraiser or hands on project, please let one of our leaders know so that we can identify a project elsewhere for support.
