Thrivent's Lutheran Night with the Huntsville Stars is Friday, May 15, 2009 at 7:05p.m. at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville. This will mark the 21st year for our sponsorship of this event. The event will be held under the large tent along first base. Tickets are $10 for reserved seats which includes food and drink. Special activities and prizes will be limited to those who hold a Thrivent ticket. This is a great family event. Be sure to ask your church coordinator for tickets or call the Huntsville Thrivent office for reservations and more information. Immediately following the baseball game we will attempt to break the World Record for the longest Wiffle Ball game ever played which would result in being recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. The current record is 30 hours of continuous play. We will attempt to play for 45 hours. So, get a group together or you may play alone. Time slots will be available in advance for groups. The Stars' staff will be on hand to conduct other games and activities for prizes. Food will also be available during this time. Local news media will be on hand to record this event. Everyone is invited. A donation of $1 will be accepted to play with 100% of the proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity. Bring your sleeping bags and camp out on the field. This will be a great family event.

Thrivent Builds begins home construction with Habitat for Humanity, February 21, 2009 at their Pratt Avenue warehouse. This is the third year Thrivent has built a home for someone in need of quality housing in Huntsville through the Thrivent Builds program. Please consider working on Tuesdays and Thursdays and especially on Saturdays until the first of June when the home will be dedicated. In 2008 the North Alabama Chapter of Thrivent for Lutherans approved 23 Care Abounds in Communities projects with total funding of $17,880.00. The projects covered a Spaghetti Supper, talent show, chicken dinner, youth trip to St. Louis, walk for life in the Shoals, pancake breakfast, Cool Carnival, walk for ALS, Mystery Dinner Theater, Church Yard Sale, Christmas shopping for foster children, Christmas workshop, Thanksgiving Baskets, Silent Auction, Lutheran World Relief Kit assembly, Shoals Angel Tree, Ring and Sing and Wheelchair ramps for CASA. The churches Care in Congregations program held 36 events and received $18,800.00 in funds from Thrivent. Working together to improve the communities and members of the community Thrivent members contribute time, talent and money. The total amount from Thrivent $36,680.00 was added to by monies raised at these events by Thrivent members. The total amount was above $100,000.00 We look forward to an even better year in 2009 as members continue to contribute to their communities and churches.
