Join Hands Day for 2008 sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans was a big success. The chapter decided to provide food to the Lincoln/Logan Food Pantry for our join hands day project. All 10 Logan County churches collected food to donate plus many of the churches also collected money to donate to the food pantry. There were several truck loads of food donated on May 6, 2008 from the area churches. Plus almost $1500 was donated to the food pantry to buy food. Thrivent also gave the food pantry $1000 for Join Hands Day funds to buy food. The food pantry workers were very appeciative! Many Thrivent members helped put the food away at the food pantry. It was a wonderful event and one that will be used by many Logan County residents. Thank you to all that participated in this event and THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY! You all made this a BIG success!
This year, there will be an opportunity to serve on the Thrivent Chapter Leadership Board. There will be some openings of offices on the board. Please consider serving on this board. It is a very rewarding experience! Thrivent provides the funds for us to help so many projects and it is a great feeling to be able to help someone in need. You can join the board and help us make those decisions. You can also help us spread the word to people that funding is not just for Lutherans. We can help anyone that has a worthwhile need. Thrivent does have certain criteria that has to be met prior to approval. The chapter can determine that when the request is made. If you are interested in serving on this board, please contact Bob Huelskoetter @ 217-732-3604. All elected chapter leadership positions are considered “open positions” each year, even though there may be some members who have not completed their four consecutive terms.
The Thrivent Builds Mobile is traveling the country to educate people about poverty housing and how each of us can help. Visitors experience the interior of a substandard home and hear testimonials from those who live in substandard conditions, volunteers who build homes, and families who have the joy and security of living in decent housing thanks to Thrivent Builds. Don't miss this unique 67-foot exhibit when it stops in our region this summer. We're still looking for a few good volunteers to cover a shift to work at the display. Volunteers can contact Mary Bradley at 1-88THRIVENT x 214 or mary.bradley@thrivent.com. The Mobile will be at the Illinois State Fair Thursday, August 14th-- Sunday, August 17th form 9am-9pm.
