| “Join Hands Day Event for 2005.” |
The Thrivent Financial For Lutherans Chapter program is a part of this Community outreach. Your Canyonlands Chapter along with the Five County Volunteer Center on June 11th. has completed the reconstruction of lawns that were lost to four homes when the Santa Clara River flooded. This activity consisted of repairing and replacing sprinkling systems, furnishing and planting one tree and replanting the lawns by Hydroseeding. The Five County Volunteer Center provided approximately one hundred volunteers who worked under the direction of a Landscaper’s direction at each home. Canyonlands Chapter furnished the required materials with financial assistance and also furnished a luncheon in the afternoon after the volunteers had completed their work at each home. Interestingly enough we had rain showers in the morning but after the work was completed the sun came out for the afternoon. KUDOS! This Join Hands Day event has been one of the biggest most exciting events the Canyonlands Chapter has had the pleasure of being involved in. In the beginning it looked overwhelming, but our “Community Service Team Director,” Judy Robbins, kept telling us to have faith and we will complete the activity. We owe Judy a great big hug and thank you!! Her leadership and planning made this event come to fruition! Judy made maps so we knew where to find the homes, found the Landscapers to direct activities at each home, gathered required material lists for each home, saw that the material required was ordered and delivered to the homes, and provided directions to the park where the luncheon was served. Even though Judy lost her voice to a cold just two days prior to the event date she kept us all on track.

Thrivent Financial has been urging their chapters to begin now, seeking members to serve on the Chapter Board for the coming year 2006. If you are interested in serving a few hours each month to provide help to those less fortunate or needing assistance of some kind I will be available to talk with you regarding serving on the Canyonlands Chapter Board. There are also Positions of Congregational Coordinators in each Congregation. These positions can see the needs in their Community and bring these needs to their Congregations and use the congregation’s supplementary funds from Thrivent Financial or bring the need to the Chapter’s attention for action. Chapter Leaders serve for only one year at a time and must be elected in the fall to serve for the following year. Chapter Leaders are limited to four years in succession and then must take at least two years off, but can serve as advisors. Five of our present board members have served for the first three years of the chapter’s organization. Some of these members would like to take a year off. These five positions ( President, Vice President, Records Director, Financial Director, and Congregational Service Team Director) are required to be filled for the Chapter to be recognized by Thrivent Financial. Additional Optional Positions consist of ( Communications Director, Assistant Financial Director, Community Service Team Director, Events Director, and Youth Director) which makes up a board of ten people. The people we now have in the Optional Elected Positions are aquainted with the operation of the Chapter and could move into the required positions. There will always be someone available to guide you in your responsibilities on the Chapter Board. The time I have served on the Chapter Board has been inspirational to me in being able to help and serve others in need! The Chapter has greater resources available than individual congregations because there is more than one congregation involved. Canyonlands Chapter covers all of Southern Utah and has a membership of 513 members located in 36 towns and Villages throughout Southern Utah. Our potential for Benevolent Activities is beyond our imagination! Were all of our members become active members! WOW!
