Canyonlands Chapter,
LOOKING FOR WAYS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Imagine yourself as part of a group of caring people with the opportunity to decide how best to use funding that benefits people in need and your community.  Imagine being able to increase the impact that money has through community involvement, awareness, and additional funds raised through the activity of the caring and work of many hands!

This year Canyonlands Chapter will have dispersed over $18,000.00 in benefits. These funds were distributed to the purchase of a lift chair for a handicapped person, help individuals defray medical costs, helped four home owners replace flood damage from the Santa Clara Spring flood, supported other environmental issues, supported Boy Scout Troops, and other Christian Auxiliaries, such as Dixie Care and Share, and will purchase gifts for homeless youth during the Christmas Season.

The past three years on the Canyonlands Chapter Leadership Board has been an exciting and exhilarating experience as the Chapter has the ability to tackle greater activities of benefit giving with the support of all of the congregation within our chapter area and the amount of Supplemental Funds granted to the Chapter from Thrivent Financial Care Abounds in Communities® program

CANYONLANDS HISTORY
Since the beginning of the New Chapter organization established by Thrivent Financial in 2003 you local Canyonlands Chapter has had the privilege of dispersing over $36,000.00 dollars in benevolent funds through fund raising activities, and Thrivent Financial supplemental funds program.
It’s a great feeling when someone comes to us with a problem and we can provide assistance to them and help restore their life. If you would like to join our Canyonlands Chapter and help in our programs, contact our Vice President John Mogren by  Phone  (435) 635-7708,  or E-mail  ( emogren@sginet.com) or slow mail at (PO. Box 965. La Verkin, Utah 84745-0965).

Our monthly chapter meetings are held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2260 Red Bluff Dr., in St. George, on the second Saturday of each month.  You are welcome to join us at any of these meetings to receive more information or present programs or concerns that you feel we should be aware of..

KATRINA DISASTER
Thrivent Financial set aside six million in matching funds for their members to contribute tothe disaster fund, and two million dollars for chapters to have activities for matching funds.  When I called Thrivent Fraternal the first week of October to find out how the forms were to be made out, I was told “Great news! All the funds have already been spoken for, and we still have a big box of form to process in our office.”  I think that speaks to the success of the Thrivent Organization’s Fraternal program.
You can still send your donations to the Disaster Relief of your denomination, it is just that there are no longer any supplement funds available.

ELECTIONS

Chapter leader elections are just around the corner and we have vacancies on the Chapter Leadership Board.  Board members only serve one year at a time and must be reelected each year.  A Board member can serve only four years in succession, and then must take two years off.  Most of our present members have reached their third year of service and next year will be our fourth.  This means after that it will mean finding a mostly new board.  To eliminate the problem of having to elect a total new slate of Board members at one time we would like to fill three offices with new members for the year of 2006. Our chapters three vacancies for the year of 2006 are “Vice President, Congregational Service Team Director and Assistant Financial Director.

Our present Assistant Financial Director is stepping into the Financial Directors position for next year so she will be available to help train and advise for this Assistant position.
