| Recent Summit Conference a Success |
Thrivent chapter leaders received an enthusiastic report of the recent Conference in Colorado. Attending for Canyonlands Chapter were Barry Prescott of St. George and Kathleen Job of Cedar City. They both shared their noted reports and related new ideas for our chapter as brought forth in the various meetings at the Conference in Denver.
Our Chapter for Care Abounds in Communities® is ready to accept applications for supplemental funds for community projects. In the last newsletter, all the projects were itemized and it was good to see all that is being done helping flood victims restore their property and also giving the Southwest Dixie Care & Share some needed financial help. Dixie is always in need of food and clothing. If you know of an individual or organization in need of help or financial aid, please attend our monthly Chapter meetings (2nd Sat. of the month at 10 a.m.) at Trinity Lutheran Church on Red Cliffs Dr. in St. George. We would like to help you with your project. Paper work needs to be submitted to get the project started.

IT TAKES TIME AND ENERGY TO PARTICIPATE BUT WELL WORTH IT. YOU NEED TO SUBMIT THE PAPER WORK TO GET YOUR PROJECT STARTED IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDS FROM THRIVENT. PLEASE CONTACT US A MONTH PRIOR TO THE FUND RAISING EVENT. THIS PROGRAM CARE ABOUNDS IN COMMUNITIES DOES NOT HAVE TO BE TIED TO A LUTHERAN CHURCH. A GROUP OF THRIVENT FOR LUTHERANS CAN PIGGYBACK ON ANOTHER GROUP (SUCH AS LIONS, ROTARY, DOVE HOUSE, ETC.) SPONSORING A FUND RAISER FOR A COMMUNITY ENTITY AND THEN PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDS UP TO 800 DOLLARS.(CHECK WITH US FOR DETAILS).

IN conclusion-- our vice president, John Mogren, had some heavy duty surgery recently and has asked to be relieved of his duties. A replacement needs to be found. This is an important position and if you are interested in helping out please consider this prayerfully. Call me at (435) 674-0044. It requires some work, but is a rewarding position for those who would be willing to help. Thrivent says 8 to 10 hours a month and the majority of that time is driving and attending a monthly meeting. Call me, Lee Hughes at the above number.
Two challenging activities are coming up soon: May 6 volunteers will gather at the Volunteer Center @ 1600S 1070 W on Dixie Downs Rd. , 7 to 8 a.m., to provide a backyard for a new Habitat family. The small area will need sprinklers installed and sod provided for this needy family's new Habitat home located at 1324 W, and 320 N. in St. George,Ut. Volunteers are welcome and needed. Contact LONA AND KEVIN SCOLES , IVINS UT. PHONE 435-652-9456. An additional activity will be to build a ramp for a handicap person @ 259S and 300 W. We can use your help.
