| Canyonlands Chapter, CANYONLANDS CHAPTER DECEMBER NEWS |
Another year has slipped by, and Canyonlands Chapter has had a great year. We have been able to provide help to those in need through the Thrivent Chapter Program. Individual Congregations have also had the experience of helping others through their participation in the congregational part of Thrivent Financial Benevolence program. Matthew 25: 14-30 ( the text for Sunday November 20th sermon) comes to mind as to the use of our Talents. You the members of Thrivent Financial are to be congratulated for the success of our chapter programs and activities. The Chapter leaders can plan and schedule activities, but it is YOU the members who support the activities that bring forth the fruition!
After serving on the chapter Leadership board for three year I have come to realize that there is no problem that is TOO BIG or too small for us to provide some help. If we have a problem beyond the scope of our chapter we can call on other chapters to join us in an activity to provide help. In the 2004 we helped support another chapter within our Region to raise funds to help pay for large surgical expenses incurred by one of their pastors.
In sitting down and summarizing our activities for this year I was amazed that we have exceeded distribution of over twenty three thousand dollars this year alone! (see attached report) In addition to the chapter activities each congregation has their own Supplemental Funds activities which makes the total for our area of Southern Utah even greater.
| NEW CHAPTER LEADERS FOR 2006 |
We have three new people joining the Chapter Officers this coming year which will provide new and fresh ideas for next year’s activities. We also rely on you the chapter members for bringing needs and concerns in the Community to us, so that we might consider supporting them in our activities. Our past three years has proven that we have people within our Chapter Area that are attuned to and concerned about those in need.
Thrivent’s Winter 2005 magazine features the new alliance with Habitat for Humanity! The center page provides a Member Gift form which will also provide matching funds for this new program. Perhaps someone in our Chapter membership knows of a family needing a home that could be furnished by the Habit for Humanity program. If you are interested in perusing and participation of the Habitat for Humanity program in our area please give us a call. I know there is a Habitat for Humanity organization in our area but I am not familiar with it.
