Canyonlands Chapter, Summer Edition
THREE DIGET TEMP. CAN FALL WEATHER BE FAR BEHIND?
Summer vacations are coming to a close. Time to reflect on this year's trip to new places with our families. This year my wife, dog (Little Orphan Annie) and I visited the beautiul state of Oregon, a 1450 mile trip going and another 1550 returning. The weather on the Pacific coast was beautiful and so wonderfully cool. How many of you had the opportunity to visit a distant church? We had the good fortune to visit Atonement Lutheran Church in Newport , Oregon. This was a lovely appointed church with a lively choir and a singing congregation. The pastor and members greeted us afterwards and we left blessed  after worship 1500 miles from home.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Traveling by auto was filled with surprises. Some good and some not. We found the roads filled with work crews attempting to get the highways back in shape while the weather permitted. This left us with some delays, however most were of a matter of minutes before we moved on. We did encounter a road block in Nevada due to a fatal shooting up ahead. It brought sixty miles of detour, but we felt blessed and patiently relaxed in the cool air conditioned car. We felt blessed that God gave us a beautiful summer of travel and new scenery to feast our eyes, and God's guidance for a safe trip. A new season is coming up and time for our congregations to rise and shine with new Chrisitan opportunities to serve.

REMARKS FROM LEE E. HUGHES , PRESIDENT OF OUR CHAPTER
Our recent doings have gone well. JOIN HANDS DAY was a success. Lona, our Community Service Team Director did a good job working with the Volunteer Center and others to organize the work of three projects: heavy brush work at the St. George, UT. arboretum. It was rewarding with enthused young and older workers pitching in; other projects included building a long ramp on a house for a wheel chair person, and putting in sprinklers, lawn and flowers for a Habitat for Humanity home. This was hard work for many hands but also rewarding. The people you meet and we all finally assembled afterward to a picnic grounds for some refreshing food and drink.

UPCOMING ELECTION INFORMATION
Our chapter board for Canyonlands has three positions that will be open because of term limitations. We are looking for people to fill those positions come January.
