Thrivent at Work
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a "not for profit" organization with nearly 3 million members. Thrivent Financial works with and through its members to support their communities, congregations and individuals in need. The SLCC Thrivent Board members oversee the distribution of funds granted to us by Thrivent Financial for need-specific service projects and benevolence. The board also plans appreciation events for its members.

2011 Projects supported by SLCC Thrivent
In 2011, a total of $14,250.00 was disbursed to various groups or individuals within the South Lehigh County Chapter area. Below are a few examples.

Projects which supported individuals with medical needs included bake sales, a roast beef dinner, a peach festival and a Community Outreach Benefit, which included food, games and entertainment.

Many fingers were busy stitching and quilting  at "Project Comfort" and  "Stitch and Chat Quilting." The quilts were distributed through Lutheran World Relief.

Basic school supplies were distributed to needy children in the Allentown School District and a yard sale was held to raise money to send youth to the upcoming National Youth Gathering in Texas.

Lutheran Congregational Services received funding for disaster relief and Camp Noah.

If you are aware of a needy cause that our chapter can support, please contact Bruce Wagaman at
SWBWTHRI@gmail.com.  Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is there for you!

Social Events
In the summer of 2011, SLCC Thrivent members were invited to attend two Iron Pigs baseball games.
Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate. Rain interrupted both outings. 150 tickets were sold for the June 9th game and 165 for the August 14th game. We also collected canned foods for local food banks in conjunction with the August event. If you had purchased tickets for the "rained out" August game, you may exchange them for a game in April or May, 2012, by contacting the Iron Pigs box office.

Fifty members also attended "South Pacific" at DeSales University. This wonderful production was enjoyed by all who attended!
