Carbon County PA Chapter, Fall Update
Dear Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Members,
We are approaching that time of year when elections are held for our chapter Board of Directors. This year’s elections dinner will be held on October 25th, at the Mahoning Valley Ambulance Company. A reminder postcard was sent to all members last week. The election dinner is always a great time to gather, review what the Board has accomplished on your behalf during the year, see some great entertainment (this year, a magician!), and then accomplish the business of electing the officers that will guide the Chapter through the next year.
Unfortunately, this year we will have a larger-than-usual turnover of officers, and the very existence of the chapter is in jeopardy. To date, no Thrivent members have stepped forward to run for any of the board positions. Of those positions, five are required while the others are strongly recommended but optional. But here’s the bottom line: if the five mandatory positions (President, Vice President, Financial Director, Records Director, Director of Congregational Advocates) are not filled, the chapter will cease to exist. That means no support for either fundraisers or hands-on projects would be available to your congregations or area organizations that you support.
Please seriously consider volunteering for your Carbon County PA Chapter Board of Directors. The commitment (one night a month) is not strenuous, but the good it does is broad and deep. This year, we’ve helped a total of 20 churches and non-profit organizations in an array of activities, including support for Vacation Bible Schools, Prayer Shawl Ministries, youth mission trips, aide to individuals with pressing medical bills, just to name a few. With your investment of just a few hours a month, you can be responsible for seeing that this important Thrivent mission continues. You will be directly involved in making good things happen in our communities!
Since you probably have more questions before you can make a decision, please call any of the following chapter leaders: Barbara Belon, Chapter President – (610) 377-6103 Diane Danielson, Vice President – (610) 826-7977 Eileen Koehler, Financial Director – (570) 427-8727 Bernice Steigerwalt, Records Director – (570) 386-5418 Raydell A Steward, Director of Congregational Advocates - (570) 427-4172 Jim Tilney, Assistant Financial Director - (570) 325-5438 Richard Donald, Community Service Team Director - (570) 455-9335 Albert J Titus, Events Director - (570) 427-4814 Curtis B. Kehm JR, Program Advisor - (570) 722-2029 Elmer E Highland, Program Advisor - (570) 325-3019
Good feelings come with serving...
While you’re thinking about this great opportunity to serve your community, we'll be helping by sending bulletin inserts, describing involvement in the Thrivent chapter, to all Carbon County Lutheran congregations. For those of you who cannot serve because of your own situation, please consider talking with your fellow Thrivent members, and encouraging them to engage in this very rewarding service opportunity. In the meantime, don't forget to RSVP for our October 25th elections dinner (Call Barbara at 610-377-6103). The food is always excellent, and this year's magician will excite both children and adults!
On behalf of your Carbon County PA Chapter Board, Barbara Belon 2011 Chapter President
