$5,020 Raised for Disaster Relief
Our "Thanks" to eight Lutheran Congregations who raised $3,765 this past year for Lutheran Disasster Relief. This along with a match from Care In Communites grants from the Chapter meant that $5,020 could be sent on to Lutheran Disaster Relief to help with their work on hurricane and midwest flood projects. The Chapter provided a one dollar match for every three dollars raised. Those congregations that supported this effort included Bethlehem in Dorothy, Epiphany in Pleasantville, Cape May, Reformation in Absecon, Zion in Egg Harbor City, St. James in Folsom, Holy Spriit in Villas and Our Saviour in Stone Harbor. This was a great cooperative effort among Lutheran Churches in South Jersey.
Join Hands Day - May 2, 2009
Now is the time to start making plans for your service team to take part in "Join Hands Day" which will be held on May 2nd this year. The South East Jersey Shore Chapter will have $500 to distribute to projects that meet the requirements. These funds can be used to purchase material to be used in the project and provide needed refreshments to those working on it. If you have a idea for a Join Hands Day event, contact Pastor Jeffrey Elliott at Cape May Lutheran Church - 609-884-2181 for an application.

Family Promise Need Your Help
Thrivent members are being asked to help Family Promise in their endeavors to provide a place of shelter for homeless families with young children. Pastor Hartmut Fege of Messiah Lutheran in Seaville is serving as Vice-President of this interfaith community organization and is looking for help from our Chapter and Lutheran congregations to get this project off and running. Family Promise is loking a purchasing a home in Cape May Court House that will serve as a shelter for homeless families until they can find permanet housing. Once the property has been obtained there will be need to furnish. We are considering a Care In Communities grant from the Chapter to help with this. Perhaps your congregation could consider raising funds through a free-will offering or event that will be matched to purchase a bed for the shelter. Further information can be obtrained by contacting Pastor Fege at 609-624-1351. Why not form a service team in your congregation and work with us on this needed community project.
